I try not to drink diet soda, but sometimes you just need a little splurge. It seems all I ever drink is water , and I am sure they will find something wrong with that sooner or later!
Oooh, I have lots to say about this. Its hard enough to stop any addiction. Now we must treat food as an addiction and control our portions or else…To guilt diabetics with this knd of not proven information is not good, its so wrong. Especially for the newly diagnosed. Finally we've gotten a license to have sweet choices without a nasty taste thanks to Splenda. We can enjoy desserts again. Yes, we all could drink more tea and drink less overall. I think there is a more evil ingredient that no one wants to aknowledge its corn syrup~! (tip:I've begun fill my glass w/ice to get more water in whatever cold drink of choice). Moderation people. If you drink gallons of anything that's not moderation.
1st-Coke contains fruitose corn syrup, so do many other brands. Pepsi does not. Read labels people. I'd set a large wager that the corn syrup causes our metobolsim to go bizerk and for all we know causes it to stay that way forever. Aspertame and other fake sugar kills 'some' lab rats, are you a lab rat? Their is no proof whatsoever that any individual who develops cancer didn't get it from the lettuce or hair dye or public utility fumes or some remote thing they consumed in some way.
2nd-Watch the documentary Food Inc. Your heart will tell you this makes so much sense. I have made myself crazy over trying to loose weight. I probably have so much corn in my system it will take a lifetime to get rid of. Our bodies require such fine tuning to work properly. I go crazy over people giving up french fries and lose 50lbs. I give up everything and still don't. I bet you all can relate. I'm optomistic. I think it can be fixed it just may take awhile. The sooner you start the sooner you can Njoy life more…I'm hoping. Some can go on Jenny Craig for 6mo and be great. I'm still looking for my magic formula. I know its out there. Just be careful of all the information out there.
3rd- I know plenty skinny people drinking diet soda. I know plenty of fat people who hate soda. I know lots of fat people who got skinny by drinking diet soda and sticking with it and that's how they 'stay' skinny. I've met so many people of every age, size, race, geneitc code (in Dr. offices & the hospital) that have diabetes and or heart disease. We need some real answers not ravings of guilt creating madness.
Its always a good idea to go cold turkey on complex sugars, salt and fat people. You know this. Small portions. It sux that we have to micromanage now what we took for granted before. I wish everyone to get the wisdom to eat clean, fresh, more raw type of food. Its so hard to give up all the processed stuff…I know; but now it must be done. I'm still in process too. Do your best every meal every day. Good luck everyone.
I had a feeling that my diet soda drinking was making me more hungry I am trying to stop drinking but was drinking the drinks with artifical sweetner so I guess it is true water or nothing
Just great! For over 20 years I've used diet soda, up to a gallon a day, but most days just a half gallon. Finally the last two years I've cut it almost out, but use crystal light. Seems thats no good too! Next it will be water is bad for you.
You all are right it is hard to quit caffeine.
It can also effect your nervous system. I read an article on a lot of folks being diagnosed with mutiple sclerosis. In the study they found when the two chemicals mixed together and brought to a temp. higher than 80 degrees changed the reaction in some people. Thus causing the symptons of mutiple sclerosis.
Careful moderation is the answer (in my opinion) unless you have no control or restraint or for medical reasons diagnosed by your doctor, you are advised to eliminate any and all of whatever is or going to be harmful to you.
We are told so many things! When you are trying to monitor your sugar intake when having the big (D) we are always trying to find something to help accomplish that goal! What is truly the fight answer?? I gues the true answer is moderation!! does anyone have the answer!?
I never realized that artificial sweetners were that bad for you. It is definitely a hard habit to break.
O no, I am so hooked on diet coke. This very interesting.
the other thing that is so frightening is that now in our schools, only diet drinks will be available in the soda machines. I have seen commercials for this on TV for a couple of weeks now…YIKES
This is so true. You can feel so much better off the artificial sweeteners. I read a great book on this that you can find here: http://www.diabeticconnect.com/books/63-...
So very true it's a camouflage to all of us people , but it's so hard to stop. I am trying it's the caffeine I have to get off first.
