I am being treated for Non-Hodgkins (Incurable) Lymphpoma & am blood tested weekly The Nurse from My Cancer Center called me on A Friday afternoon and said Get to thr emergency room (about six weeks ago) Your blood sugar is 600…There I was diagosed w/type2..There is a strong suspicion that the Prednisone I was taking after evert Chemo treatment triggerd or caused the Diabetes? I Still have a lot to learn about this disease & possibly it may go away after the Cancer is in remission? If I eat right? & exercise Reguraly…But I am truly in THE DARK right now. Thanks for any help… "Billy Bang Bang" Peace & Happy Easter to All…
God has smiled on many and He continues to do so. Everyone who has such a dog, a life aide companion, is blessed. This is something to feel happy about for others YES!. Sometimes my big pup will put his huge paw on my lap when told he will down. Than there times when he will actaully try to claim on my lap and will not down: Yet he does not behave toward my child this way. Maybe I should start checking my levels, to see if his is on to sometime or be just plain goofy pup.
May be we have been fortunate! But, truely we have had labs to pit bulls and everyone of them knows or knew when my husband was in trouble with his sugars. They will not be told to lay down they insist he gets up and everytime he has needed that assistance. Have never trained any of them. They just know. But we could use some training in them dialling 911.
I think this is great! Ijust recently got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 31 years old. I can't imagine going through this at age 7. Iknow it would be hard for a child. I have a 7 and 8 year old. I wonder if I could get my dog trained in this? Anyone know who to contact?
My aunt helped pioneer the Hearing Ear Dog program, but (as a new diabetic mom) I haven't heard of this training before. Amazing! And it's great to hear comments from others with diabetic alert dogs- thanks for sharing your experiences too!
I'm am lucky and proud to say that I have a Diabetic Alert Dog. I've had her for 3 years now and she truly has saved my life numerous of times. She was trained as is stated in this video, but the training continues at home everyday. Her name is Kora and shes a German Shepard =) I couldn't imagine my life without her =)!!!!!!!
wow! what a great story. i have been type1 for fifty yeears and at present in use of my second guide dog. my first guide dog just picked up to alert me when i had lows she would sit in fromt of me and paw my knee. she lived to be 15 but now she is gone. i waited two years and got my second guide dog from southeastern guide dogs. i had hannah for about three months and one day she took my wrist and would not let go. i checked my blood sugar and it was 43 she caught it just in time. in any given day my blood sugar will range from 18-1000+ but now once again by the grace of God i have a great guide dog and a diabetic alert dog. i do hope that more of these dogs are raised to be of help to diabetics. ralph and hannah
This was great I got to see one work today at the Diabetic Expo in Salt Lake City UT. Its really amazing. I know of the seeing Eye dogs my mother had one but now they have Diabetic dogs. I know the amount of training that goes into these dogs but its worth it. I would love to be a host family for a dog one day. I may one day need a dog myself.

Great information, I should think about getting a dog(maybe) and how do that work?
I have a Min Pin, and she knows when my bs is low, its amazing how a dog can sense those type of things.
