Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 large onion, sliced thin, 5 1/2 ounces *

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (regular and chipotle are both good)

Directions

  1. Sauté the onion in butter until tender and slightly caramelized. Place the cheese in a greased pie plate; top with the onions. Beat the eggs, cream and seasonings. Pour over all. Bake at 350º for 35-40 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

Hi I am a texan and I too had a great recipe for a Texas onion pie and lost it. I tried this and it tastes the same as my lost recipe. Thanks so much for posting this. Linzi

I tried this but substituted fat free 1/2n1/2 for the heavy cream. My husband absolutely loved it! He is really getting a kick out of all the new recipes I have found here. I am thankful that he will eat the things I need to eat.
