Baked Apples

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice 2/3 cups Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 2 Tbsp margarine 2 tsp grated orange peel 8 small Granny Smith or other crisp dessert apples

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray an 11 x 7 x 2-inch baking dish with vegetable cooking spray.Whisk together orange juice, Splenda_ Granular, flour, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan; cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickens slightly.Remove from heat; whisk in margarine and orange peel.Core apples; peel 1 inch from tops of apples. Place apples in prepared dish; pour sauce over apples. Bake uncovered, 35 to 40 minutes or until tender, basting at 10 minute intervals. Serve apples with sauce. Serves 8. When compared to a traditional recipe, this version has a 38% reduction in calories, a 46% reduction in carbohydrates and a 61% reduction in sugars.
