Also known as Elavil. It is an anti seizure medication and also used for depression. Some doctors prescribe it for sleep.I took 50mg for aprox 3yr at bedtime and it worked very well.We just had to increase my dose to 75mg and it works better for me.It is very inexpensive only about $4.00 per month

Add your reviewI was a zombie for four days on this med.
ProsInexpensive
ConsFor me it was hard to function.
Was given to me for fibromyalgia, helps me to sleep fine but I spend all day sedated and weak.
Was given this for "tennis elbow." Works great!! On lowest dose possible. Mother and sister take for depression, high dosage and has worked well for them.
ProsEliminated pain in elbow!
ConsWhen I first begin taking it, even though I was on a mild dose, it made me very sleepy. Inexpensive and been on market forever.
I have been on this med for I think 4 yrs. Started low dose now up to 150mg at night. Does not make me groggy or sleepy the next day. I take this along w/zoloft 150mg both for depression and xanex 0.5mg as needed for anxiety
Proshelps when needed
Consdoses keep going up, now I believe I am at the max dose
gave me restless legs
Prosmade me feel happier
Consrestless legs that drove me crazy! Had to stop taking it
didnt work for me
how frightening that had to be… I'm so glad you are okay. take care,
Must totally change my rating for this drug - I went into cardiac arrest because of it! I just spent the weekend in the hospital - had to have my heart stopped and restarted! Both the hospitalist & cardiologist agreed the Elavil triggered this episode - atrial valve flutter and tachycardia - pulse was over 220! Turns out I have a heart defect causing WPW Syndrome. Will be discussing why on EARTH my Dr. put me on this when she KNEW I had a history of arrythmic episodes!!!
ProsCheap
ConsAlmost killed me.
Had it quite some time ago
Prosnone
Consdoes not work, keeps you awake, and made me have a allergic reaaction…increased anxiety
I am not sure of this medication quite yet…had it years ago for depression and sleep but now put on for a additional help with neuropathy pain. Just started a couple again for this a couple weeks ago though…we'll see
ProsSuppose to help with neuropathy, does help with sleep, and can help with depression
ConsCan make you groggy the next day.
My physician prescribed this for my insomnia, but mostly for my IBS. So far, it is working well for both.
Pros$4 prescription at Walmart, works quickly, stops my constant diarrhea.
ConsVERY groggy well into the next day. Will try taking it earlier to see if it helps.
Very inexpensive
ConsCan be habit forming
