Also known as Elavil.It is an anti seizure medication and also used for depression.Some doctors prescribe it for sleep.I took 50mg for aprox 3yr at bedtime and it worked very well.We just had to increase my dose to 75mg and it works better for me.It is very inexpensive only about $4.00 per month

Mother and sister take for depression, high dosage and has worked well for them. Pros Eliminated pain in elbow! Cons When I first begin taking it, even though I was on a mild dose, it made me very sleepy. Inexpensive and been on market forever.

Does not make me groggy or sleepy the next day. I take this along w/zoloft 150mg both for depression and xanex 0.5mg as needed for anxiety Pros helps when needed Cons doses keep going up, now I believe I am at the max dose

I just spent the weekend in the hospital - had to have my heart stopped and restarted! Both the hospitalist & cardiologist agreed the Elavil triggered this episode - atrial valve flutter and tachycardia - pulse was over 220! Turns out I have a heart defect causing WPW Syndrome. Will be discussing why on EARTH my Dr. put me on this when she KNEW I had a history of arrythmic episodes!!! Pros Cheap Cons Almost killed me.

Just started a couple again for this a couple weeks ago though…we'll see Pros Suppose to help with neuropathy, does help with sleep, and can help with depression Cons Can make you groggy the next day.

So far, it is working well for both. Pros $4 prescription at Walmart, works quickly, stops my constant diarrhea. Cons VERY groggy well into the next day. Will try taking it earlier to see if it helps.
