Humalog KwikPen (Insulin Lispro)

By kdroberts Added at December 1, 2008 Views 2,193 Reviews 17 4.26097 stars

Humalog is an injectable fast-acting man-made insulin.

Humalog KwikPen is an easy-to-use, portable pen that comes prefilled with Humalog mealtime insulin. This lightweight pen is small enough to fit in your pocket and can be used just about anywhere — there is no refrigeration needed after first use. With the prefilled Humalog KwikPen, it's easy to set your dose: simply turn the dose knob in one-unit increments (up to 60 units) to your desired dose. If you dial too much, simply turn the knob back to your correct dose.

I just started taking insulin, this is so much easier and I am much more comfortable giving myself these injections rather than the syringes.

I have to say this is a good fast acting insulin. I use this on a sliding scale when I do my BG checks. Between this, Lantus and some diet modifications I have had good BG readings 99.95% of the last 3 week. I'm pleased with this medicine.

Easy to use, convenient to carry. Injections hurt less than a finger prick, if at all.

It can be expensive. Most of the time I get the dosing right for DAFNE. However, I do make a little mistake now and then.
Went hypo to 34 after using it. If you exercise after injecting & eating, you can very well go hypo.

For any insulin to be effective, you must exercise.

Great working fast acting insulin. I don't use the kwikpen, but the normal sized one.

Pros

Easy to take with you, can get different size needles, & works quickly and efficiently.

Cons

If you take a little too much it is easy for you to go hypo, & the bubbles inside the pen can be hard to get rid of
