Category: Activity I have built up to going to the community center for water walking and low impact aerobics. Two if not three times per week. We figured if we made 44 round trips in the pool that it is 1 mile. This is the best thing I have found for neuropathy and arthritis . The water is so warm and feels so good. |

July 17, 2009 4:54 AM I love aquatic excercise. Since I live in a hot climate the pool atmosphere is always appealing. I don't know if this might work but can you find out if your local community center has aquatic excercise or maybe you can ask about walking a lane during a lap swim time. The cost might be less expensive or sometimes even free? I know that it slopes to deeper levels but maybe if you pick a lane at the edge you can tread and support yourself with the edge. It may not be an option at all, but if cost is an issue it might be worth asking about it? Pros:very low impact for joints. The water creates a natural resistance so you get a good muscular workout as well. In a class type setting you can find new friends with whom you can network. Cons:class or open hours may not always be convenient to your schedule. I find that the clorine dries my skin and hair and thus need specialty cleanser and shampoos/conditioner. |

July 15, 2009 9:15 AM I started in the warm therapy pool for physical therapy on my knees and now water walk seven days a week in a cool pool. Pros:Injury is rare. Pain relief is super. No soreness after exercise. Breathing not hampered by pool exercise. Age is not a problem. Water provides resistance and yet lessens weight bearing. Releases tension. Cons:Pool is expensive at medical center health care facility. Solitary activity. Must travel to pool. Water is sometimes very cold. Gets boring and repititous. |

July 10, 2009 5:06 AM I used to do some gentle movements in the pool. When my knees heal, that is where I am headed back. I heard a local hotel will allow us seniors to come in for 3 dollars. I can afford that! Pros:Helps get the movement in. I am so anxious to get into a warm pool Cons:None that I know of unless you over-do it and strain yourself |

November 6, 2008 2:14 AM Pros: I feel a lot better since I have been getting the exercise in. I don't guess it matters what exercise you do just as long as you keep moving. Cons:none |
