ProsGreat to have.
I use one for balance in the winter time. We
Prosget a good deal of ice and snow. It really helps.
I have on which folds and is easy to carry if I don't
Consneed it. If I need it its always handy.

I use a cane from time to time when needed
Prosgood to lean on when needed
Consdont know any
I also use a cane. I had a total knee replacement in 2003 and more recently I had hip replacement surgery in April of this year. I've also been diagnosed with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, which makes my leg muscles weak, so my cane helps me for balance and support when walking. I alsom shake it if a strange dog approaches. When walking my own dog I use it to gently In stores I sometimes use my cane to grab an item on the top shelf that I can't reach myself. Sometimes other shoppers comment on my use of my cane that way. guide him to where I want him to be.
ProsI can use it in other ways than just walking and support.
ConsWhen shopping I have to remember to take it out of the cart before leaving. Sometimes I have gone off and gone quite a ways before realizing I forgot my cane and have to go back and get it.
Today 12/12/09, is the first I have needed my cane in a long time. I am hurting after pt yesterday and just need the added balance aide today.
ProsHelps balance. I would like to get one for the other side for extra good balance.
Consnone really.
I too have had to use a cane, but prefer my walker.it gives better balance.
I use one most of the time. My pt suggested it for my balance problems. When I was looking for one, I went on ebay and found a small rubber tennis shoe that fits on the bottom of a cane. I had to get one—pink. I get so many comments on it. Everyone loves it. It made me feel better about having to use a cane.
ProsDefinitely helps me walk better and more safely.
I use one somtimes and it works for me. I like to walk alot and when the days are good i walk pretty far and my cane is udually good on the wat back!
My elderly mother is just getting used to hers. She does not appreciate it but I think she will adjust.
ProsBetter than a fall! Some come w/ designs and some fold up…these are more expensive but hey, why not if you can swing it?
ConsGetting used to it, losing it
I use mine some but prefer my walker
ProsEasier to get into small places than my walker, helps w/ balance
ConsI trip over it then it hits my service dog. It is a tripping hazard for me.
it's even harder to use a cane
I use one when I am outside of my house. Walking on uneven ground, shopping or anything that takes me out of my house. My balance is not so good.
ProsHelps me get around and keep my balance.
ConsHas a habit of walking off with my nieces and nephews are around lol.
use one if not on my walker
Proshelps me walk better
Consnone
I have had to use one briefly and it helped with my balance and taking some of the pressure off my left leg when I was really swollen and couldn't walk as well.
Use to help me get out of chairs
after my knee surgeries I used them as I was gainning my muscle strength back, When I was getting better I would leave my cane in some store cart too… lol and lucky me, someone would take it to lost and found for me to retrive. I never lost one… then I discovered sports poles for walking/hiking. the pole extends out to various lengths and helps to keep you from falls on unever ground. I have two and use them out on my walks. People used to giggle when they'd see me poling along… It's a given in my neighborhood now, and I am seeing others doing the same more and more. It is better than a cane in my thinking because you can walk with posture balance where a can can make you lean to one side more. Coleman and Swissgear in the sports section of walmart/ Fred Meyer or what ever your department chain is where you live has them. They are about ten bucks each. You need two…My grand daughter calls them my hiking sticks.
ProsPosture balance
affordable
Conscan't think of any…
I have to say I really have needed and used mine when my neuropathy is acting up badly…or my back either way.
ProsHelps with my balance and keeping pressure off areas as I pause walking.
ConsI just hate using anything other than my own legs alone, lol.
When I become paralyzed from my sciatica, when the nerve finally start sending signals again, the pain is just so horrible, and I cannot walk, even after I can move my legs. So, I start off with a walker, untim I get up enough strength in my legs to do it mostly on my own and then I have to use a cane in order to help me walk better
Consmade my shoulder hurt at times.
good if necessary.
Conscan become dependent on it
I use one when I'm outside on uneven grouund or in town in stores that I know don't have shopping carts that I can walk & lean on.
ProsProvides good support. I use it to get out of a car or out of a chair.
ConsSometimes my cane seems to "walk away"lol. Sometimes I have left it in a cart & have gotten all the way home until I discovered I've left it somewhere.
