Inject 2 x's a day and eat your meal within 1 hour of it. Painless usally. It has kept my ALC numbers going down. I started at 7 and now stays about 5.7 or so. It also helps my weight.

Add your reviewI love Byetta. My A1c is 5.1 and my average blood sugar is 90. I haven't seen the weight benefit yet. Been on Byetta since Jan 2008. My ins covers it 100%.
I have been on Byetta for about two years now.. When I first started taking it I got so nauseated and sick that I had to force myself to eat even a little bit once or twice a day… after about a month that calmed down but appetite stayed somewhat low. After about a year Dr. decided to up the dosage to the 10mcg shots and I was on that dose for about 6 months and was nauseated and sick the whole time, to the point I dropped 30lbs in one month, great weight loss wrong way to get it though LOL. I begged my Dr. to reduce the dose back to the 5mcg and as soon as that arrives I will probably go back through an adjustment phase with nausea, but I think it will work out fairly well for me.
The one thing I hadn't been told in the beginning with this medication is that you are supposed to be taking it about a half an hour before meals. This means half hour before breakfast and half hour before dinner.. My problem is I don't eat breakfast, so I have a hard time accomplishing the proper dispensation of this medication. I did come up with a comparable method of taking the morning dose with help from the diabetes educators at my clinic.
I highly recommend Byetta, as well as the Victoza that is now available. I have a friend who is on the Victoza and LOVES it, he's seen weight loss from that as well, but he didn't have the nausea like we get from the Byetta. Definitely something to be thinking about if you have insurance that will cover the newer option.
Byetta has been an important part of my plan since I was diagnosed in June 2009. Thankfully, I've not had any side effects, but have experienced the benefits. The injections have not been painless, however - I wish they were!
I have been taking it at 5 mcg 2 x a day and i am having a hard time eating. I was on Metformin for 3 months but was having trouble with bladder infections and nausea and didn't help my BS #s so i was switched to the Byetta which also causes me to be nauseous and at times sick to my stomach. In less then a month i have lost 10 lbs. but i have a lot more to lose.
Pros.
weight loss
easy to use
not painful
no appetite
Cons.
Mild to severe nausea
sick to my stomach at times
ins. not wanting to pay for it
I've been a non compliant diabetic most of the time. But I have lost weight with Byetta. Hope to get my a1c down soon.
Dr. just took me off insulin and replaced it with Byetta. Hope to have the same results as some of the reviews I have read.

i had the same thing happen and my Dr said it might have been that my body had to learn to use the medication as It has not had the filtering propeties that a non diabetic has and then once the body was retrained through the medicine your body started using it correctly
when i started this it dropped my a1c down alot dr was happy then it went back up for some reason but now it's back down and i'm slowly dropping off some weight which will help lower thing as well .

ProsSmall needle size, most of the time I don't even feel it.
It didn't really work for blood sugars but, it was great at suppressing appetite. Not sure this is for everyone.
Pros— Convenient
Cons— I'm not very hungry using this
— Very, very expensive
— Didn't do anything for blood sugars
— Doctor kept forgetting to write script for the needle/tips
— Pens are not recyclable so it's a lot of waste in the landfills.
