Pain meds make give me the ability to function throughout the day and enable me to sleep pretty well through the night.

Pros

able to function in my daily life, improves quality of life. Don't cry as often because of the severity of pain

Cons

Constipation

I had to increase from 5mg oxycodone to 10 mg oxycotin and use the oxycodone 5mg for "breakthrough pain". The 12 hour release made a big difference because when I was taking 4-6 hours, the pain would get debilitating between doses. I've now lost 2 more disc after having a surgery already on C4-C5. I don't want two more surgeries, but it's getting there fast. Morphine makes me mean, but oxy just takes care of the pain.

Pros

My doctor said the pain center in the brain gets first dibs before the pleasure center. I don't get any extra feelings or side effects. It keeps me ouf of the wheelchair and mobile enough to take care of myself, exercise some and get out to socialize.

Cons

I hate the thought of knowing some day I'm going to have to raise the dosage again. And that I may have to be on these the rest of my life because my spine is disintergrating faster than we can fix it.

I am a light weight so I don't take a lot of pain meds during the day because most make me sleepy but Aleve seems to do the job fine for my achy joints and feet!

Cons

contraindicated with high blood pressure but I don't take it every day

Vicoden, or Loritab works for my pain. But my doctor retired, and my new doctor will barely prescribe them to me, so I mostly have to live with the pain.

Pros

Helps with the pain, I sleep better, and sometimes makes me want to clean the house ( a plus I guess…lol)

Cons

If I take them to late at night it is sometimes hard to wake up the next day, feel to drowsy.

unfortunately pain meds do not work for me. Vicodin doesn't do a thing. Percoset makes me a little dizzy as if I stood up too quickly but it doesn't last long.

Pros

known really

Ive taken Hydrocodone for over 7 years now due to a failed spine surgery..C4-C7 herniated and fused with bone from my hip…titanium cage holding it all together etc.

I must say, Ive tried ALOT of narcotic pain meds, and have founf the Hydrocodone 10/500 to be the one that does the trick.

It allows me to function once again, and although I still feel the pain in the background, I can definatly cope with it.

However, I have built up a tolerance to the meds over the 7 years, and although im perscribed 1 to 2 pills every 4 hours…I actually TAKE 4 pills ever 4 to 6 hours to manage my pain.

So as a result…I tend to run out of my perscription long before im due to get a new script. Which is the proverbial rock and a hard place…

Im faced with having to suffer ALL month long by taking as perscribed…or going say 3 weeks with no pain..then REALLY suffer for the last week.

Its the down side of the government getting involved in a doctor/patient relationship and thus the DEA limits doctors to a MAXIMUM perscription of 240 pills per month…thats 1 to 2 pills every 4 to 6 hours.Max of 8 pills a day !

I dont take the pills to get a high or to abuse them, I take them to MANAGE my pain and be able to function !!

Its sad that those people who have not gone through the pain that people such as myself suffer with on a daily basis, take it upon themselves to set limitations to ones ability to manage their pain !

Anyway, yes 100% Hydrocode works, so does Morphine 30MG IR…althought the morphine tends to make my stomace feel woozy !

Pros

Allows you to live a normal life rather than laying in bed crying !

Cons

You build up a tollerance to them and eventually hit the max allowed by law…and then are faced with how do you go about managing your pain !
