I had to start taking it every 12 hours when I got the shingles. It really helped me a lot. I still take it for nerve damage but only one pill at bedtime.

I took it but it didn't help the neuropathy. My neuropathy came way befor the diabetes. I'm now on Cymbalta and that is working for me.

I have been taking Gabepentan for years now. It helps me and I take 400mg a day, the smaller dose did not help. Otherwise it helps me now.

I haver been taking 200 milligrams together with vitamin B-100 Complex for the past 7 years and it works great. It hasn't totally eliminated the nueropathy but it has taken care of the painful aspects.

Pros

200 mgs. works for me; a bigger dossage doesn't.

Cons

Be careful with amount of gabepentan you take.

The dose I was prescribed seemed to be too strong for me. So I take less of it than before. However, it does not take the pain away I still have to take additional pain killers to function.

Pros

Works somewhat.

Cons

I believe it makes my eyes twitch in the higher doses.

I was given this medicine for a chronic cough which started 10/07. Not only did it not help the cough, with increased dosages my behavior became manic to the point that my husband told me to call my psychiatrist. It turns out that, with my kidneys functioning at about 25%, the gabapentin, which is metabolized thru the kidneys, was reaching toxic levels in my system. So consider your kidney function if your doctor reccomends this medication.

Pros

None for me.

Cons

Toxic to my system, increased anxiety to manic levels.

I've been on high doses of this since 1990 or so, for peripheral neuropathies and restless leg sundrome. I'm really thankful for it, although there are some fairly new warnings about it causing suicidal feelings in some patients. I'll tell you this — I was more suicidal before starting treatment, with the pain and constant jerkiness of my legs and feet. :) Take it several times a day.

Pros

Like I said, it has helped me tremendously with restless leg syndrome, leg and foot pain from peripheral neuropathies.

Cons

I haven't seen any, but check for new warnings about suicidal feelings in some patients. There are some doctors and FDA discussions about this. Check especially FDA records.

I started taking this medicine for my legs and it did not work for me. The doctors took me off of it and put me back on it a few years later. Now, not only does it not work but it makes my stomach hurt.

Took it for 6 months . Prescribed for nerve pain generated by spinal disease. Major memory problems! Employer advised I might want to find another solution or another job.

Pros

If it works for you I am happy that you are finding relief. It does not work for everyone but worth a try

Cons

Hated breaking down in tears and embarasing myself when I could not remember my address !
