I turned to Glucerna shakes after my hernia surgery on July 14th. My diabetes type 2 was finally getting better. After my surgery I could not eat my 3 meals a day. I started drinking the less then delicious shakes for lunch. My blood sugar started dropping. Shortly I became insulin free after 3 years. Last week my doctor took away 1 of my nightly glyburide. He said that as long as I am feeling and doing so well that I can continue to drink the Glucerna shakes for lunch. I would like to caution every one they do not contain all of your daily vitamin and mineral requirements. Please check with your doctor before replacing a meal with the Glucerna shakes. My highest # the last week was 143 but I am averaging about 90 fasting and less then 125 predinner. Maybe I will get used to the taste of chocolate flavored vitamins. If my sugar starts dropping between lunch and dinner I find a snack to tide me over. I do my best to keep my morning and evening carb intake at 45 grams per meal.

I like chocolate and vanilla but I love the strawberry. Great for when I have no appetite. The grocery store I use-Smith's- gives you coupons along with your receipt for products you buy. I get coupons for glucerna, like $3 off on 4glucerna products, about once a month.

Finally got around to trying it. Vanilla is ok, strawberry is awesome. Haven't tried the chocolate flavor yet.

I've been drinking it for breakfast and lunch and having a reasonable dinner. Kind of a slim fast diet. I've been taking off 1-2lbs a day!

Pros

Feel great, good way to get all those vitamins and minerals.

Strawberry has a great taste

Really great for my weight loss.

Cons

Not filling/small, but easy to get used to.

Vanilla is just okay.

I saw where someone posted that they mix it with milk in the am. I never thought of that but it is a great idea to help make it not so rich and to make it last longer.

Pros

I will have to give the milk mixture a try.

Cons

It is still expensive.

Tastes pretty good; as mentioned, is a meal replacement beverage, good for when you are sick and/or your appetite is weak.

I like these when I am not really hungry but need to have something. I like the chocolate the best. Sam's club does carry these shakes. Glucerna also has a meal replacement as well as the shake. I also like the cereal

Pros

very good. it is available by the case at
Sam's Club

Cons

it is a little pricey.

I love this product. i have glucerna mixed with milk every morning for breakfast. i am NOT a morning person and making a breakfast is NOT for me. this gives me enough protein to keep my sugars in the right spot until snack time then lunch.

Pros

fast, easy, tasty

Glucerna is NOT for anyone who is on blood thinners. It has a high Vitamin K contact and just negates the effect of the blood thinner Coumadin.

Pros

Easy

Cons

Blood thicking effect.

Actually, Glucerna is a meal replacement drink — and therefore intentionally loaded with calories. See my interview with a nutritionist on just this topic:

http://www.diabetesmine.com/2008/07/what...

Pros

* Good for those trying to GAIN weight
* "Think of Glucerna as a chocolate-flavored drink with a couple multivitamins and a scoop of protein powder blended into it."

Cons

* If you already eat “healthy” then you probably have no need for all the extra calories that go along with the vitamins and minerals!

I like the french vanilla the best or home made vanilla. It tastes really good cold poured into a glass I have had in the fridge getting cold itself. Rather than straight from the can,

Pros

I use it now as a quick pick me up. I need to buy some.

Cons

It is very expensive.

I am going to try it to lose weight

It works great for a meal substiture.

Pros

Tastes fairly well. Not as bad as others.

Cons

If you are on blood thinners, i.e. coumadin, it counteracts it. It has a relatively high amount of vitamin K. I am unable to use it due to this.
