I really like this product. I'm on a sliding scale with my insulin.I use to use the bottles and syringes for Novolog. Now I use the Novolog FlexPen. It's perfect for those times you go out and have to have your insulin. I have to take my insulin every time I eat something because my blood sugar was out of control. Sense I've been on this and Lantus 70 units, my blood sugar has dropped dramatically. It's in the double digits now. I can't complain. I can't complain. I definitely recommend this product.

The pens work for me and are easier to transport than the vial and syringe. The one thing I did not like so well was that the cap did not fit on when the pen needle was on. If I have to take this to work that would be a much nicer "option."

Pros

easier to dose correctly than vial and syringe.

Cons

more pricey than the vial and syringe method.

I have had both the glass bottles and the pen. I would never go back to the bottle if I can help it. You might get a little insulin lost sometimes, but that is nothing compared to dropping a bottle and it smashes into several pieces.

Pros

No refrigeration needed-big plus for me. Hard to carry insulin and the needles required to work. If I put the insulin in the refrigerator, I tend to leave it there when I am in a rush to leave. Bottles were always a hassle at the drug store in getting the correct amount, now now problem, I get the correct number of pens and I am in business.

Cons

Getting to the end of the pen and having to use 2 needles to give yourself the proper dose.

I have used them on and off for a few years now.

Pros

No syringes needed. Easy to dial doses, no measuring and counting lines (no math the better). Don't have to worry about them breaking like the vials.

Cons

When I remove the needle I notice that about a unit of insulin drips out. That's not much, but it adds up.

I've been using the pen since February/March of 2008. 1-9 Ratio for Carbs myself. Its not the pen thats the problem for me. I am going on the pump. I take at least 4-6 shots of Novolog a day for food. Tired of needles.

Pros

Convenient. Easy to use and to travel with. I was also able to get the smallest gage needles to use with the pen. My pharmasist is awesome:)

This appears to be working for me. I will be meeting with my doctor for the second time since my diagnosis in August of this year, to evaluate my progress. I personally can't imagine using a syringe for anything.

Pros

Easy to use and effective.

Cons

This is not inexpensive and the other options are far less appealing.

I have matched matched my insulin/carb ration to exactly 1 unit for every 10g of carb.

Pros

Works as intended.

Cons

Insulin curve is 6 hours. Smallest dosage is 1 unit.

FlexPen works out really well for me. When I was using a vial and syringe I was wasting most of the vial. With the flexPen I am not wasting money on unused insulin I can't use anymore.

Pros

Lot easier to carry around than a vial and syringe. Not that hard to recycle the plastic from the needles either. My prescription last a lot longer too. As I only go through one to two pens a month. They come in a five pack.

Cons

None

Somehow when I reordered my insulin and needles I go this in stead. Did not have time to argue with pharmacy that it is not what get. took it home an started using it.

Pros

It was free

Cons

It was to much work to get one little shot in. What a bunch of extra work and talk about adding plastic to the environment .. I kept the pens and going to do a recycling project.!! All those extra pieces , the needle in it own little container, the pen did not fit my carry bag. nope sorry not for me. Any one need some extra needles?

I like the FlexPen vs. the bottles.

Cons

I wish I could do 1/2 units like with the Junior, cuz the pharmacy always gives me the wrong pen! My fault I know, but it would still be nice.

I use this pen daily. I started in August and it is convenient and pain free.

Pros

Pain free and the numbers are easily read and adjusted. The needle gauge is fine (Novofine 31 gauge)

Cons

Sometimes it takes a while to clear the air bubbles when using a new pen

I have been using this for over a year now off and on and I find it very helpful esp since I have a shakey hand and can't pull insulin from a vial.

I just learned of it and was given a sample pen the latter part of November. Was not familiar with it at all. My instructions were to test just before eating, then, if BS 150+ to use the sliding scale I was given to inject. During the holidays I used it several times (surprise!), but most of the time do not need it, now that I've gotten my eating habits back in line.

Pros

Very easy to use (uses same needle as Lantus pens) and very effective. In my case, it's great for those times when I knowingly eat something I should not, etc. The doctor reminded me that he was not giving me a license to simply "pig out" and misbehave. It does give you a little cheatin' room now and then, however.
