I had to switch from Actos to Metformin and Glyburide because I lost my insurance and had to cut cost. After just a couple of weeks I noticed my blood sugar was getting better. My last 1AC went from 7.6 to 6.1 Seems like a blessing that I lost my insurance now that my blood sugar is back in line.

Pros:

It works for me. It is on Wal Mart's cheep list. No side effects that I can tell so far.

Cons:

None for now.

Liked the fact that it worked, hated everything else.

Pros:

I took 500mg once daily for about two years then upped my dose to 500mg twice daily. When it worked, it made controlling my levels easier.

Cons:

When it stopped working it was very difficult to control my levels, then I discovered the pump. ;)

It did experience quite a few gastro problems while I was on it. Best described as gastroparesis, even though my control was excellent when I started having the "gut problems". I can't say 100% it was the Glucophage, but I'm convinced it was.

over all has worked.

Pros:

Pill works, must be taken with something in your stomach.

Cons:

Never take on empty stomach. At least for me. Takes time to get use to. It took a while before I cold get use to taking 1000 mg a day. I think can be hard on Stomach at times.

I have been on Metformin for 2 years, started at 500mg once a day, now up to 750mg once a day. Our son is a PA and he said not to worry about it dumping you, letting you go to low and passing out. I never have but then, mine wants to stay 110 to 190, no matter what. But it did drop to 87 one eve--shocked me!!! But I felt OK. I have so much degestive trouble, insomnia etc, it is hard to blame it on the med, have had the problems for many years, so, guess it works for me---but barely! I get my AIC checked in 2 months, am anxious to see if it LOOKS like I am behaving myself! ha--PR

Pros:

Keeps BS fairly resonable, but still have to watch what I eat, and exercise more than I care too, to get it down a bit more---it likes to hover around 150 to 160---not too bad, BUT something to watch!

Cons:

none that I am aware of---

I've found that taking the extended release helped me with the GI side effects. Be sure to get your lab tests while taking this.

Pros:

Cheap since it's generic, weight loss, works well.

Cons:

Some brands of the generic smell funky, GI side effects, HUGE pills.

I've been taking it for several months now, and am having good success with it... I immediately began losing weight and it is helping my pancrea/ liver relationship... maybe they can work together now...lol I am finding a steady increase in energy and quality of health and I think it is a lot to do with this drug... individual reactions to various drugs... we just have to be diligent in finding what works for us...

Pros:

weight loss and higher energy

Cons:

none that I'm aware

I have been taking 500 mg in the a.m. and 2 times 500 mg at night and kept my blood sugar under control for over 2 years. But recently for some strange reasons my kidney functions were out of wack and my doctor immediately took me off the Metformin and put me on Januvia. My Creatina is slowly back to normal but at a much higher cost, so I hope to get back on Metformin soon.

Pros:

This is a Generic and reasonbly priced, certainly less than Januvia and Actos.

Cons:

whether it is for long-term ???

When I was taking it, it worked great for me. It can interact with dyes in CAT scans and things.

Pros:

Very good control.
