August 30, 2009 1:02 PM when I was first put on meds 10 yrs ago it was metformin, was really, really hard on my stomach and intestins. Pros:none for me Cons:harsch on digestive system |

August 30, 2009 6:43 AM I started with 500 and was increased to 1000. It works most of the time. I take Synthroid too and HP meds and Atenolol. So I can't figure out if the rapid heart beat is from this med or not. But it feels as if it is going to beat right out of my chest. Pros:They finally gave me smaller pills that are not as hard to swallow as the long tabs were. :) Cons:It does make me swell up and feel bloated all the time. I just do not look like myself anymore. |

August 28, 2009 1:35 AM I started metformin almost two years ago and it works well for me. But after an eight day hospital stay for another unrelated health issue -- my sugar levels got out of control. My doctor gave me a higher dose of 1000 mg. Made me run to the bathroom a lot. Then he gave me the inbetween dose of 800 mg and it works well. Now I'm on a diet and she may need to adjust it back to 500 mg as I am improving. |

August 26, 2009 6:26 PM I just started to take Mertformin and only had mild gas. Have been taking it for about a week but my sugars are down to 150 this makes me very happy )) Pros:it seems to be working not much problem if i take with food )) Cons:a little gas |

August 23, 2009 5:20 AM I've taken this for 5 or 6 years and am very happy with it as long as I take it with food. If I take it without food I have gas that smells like a sewer, stomach ache, and diarrhea. I take 1000mg 2x daily. Pros:It is very effective in controlling my blood glucose levels. My HbA1Cs range between 5.6 & 6.5. Cons:Nasty gas when I take it without enough food. |

August 21, 2009 11:43 PM Made my BS go up average 20pts a day for the week I was on it. Bad constipation, went after my kidneys so I felt like I’d been kicked by a horse…also a rarer side effect is muscle degeneration. It went straight for an arm injury that was 1 month old and made it so bad I had it x-rayed thinking it was really broken and I didn’t know it. Dr. said get off it now. As soon as I did all symptoms went away within a week. Pros:None Cons:See comments |
