Symlin is used with insulin to lower blood sugar, especially high blood sugar that happens after meals. It is given/taken subcutaneously (like insulin) about 10-15 minutes prior to the meal. This doesn't replaced insulin, but used as an adjunct to assist in lowering your sugar levels. This medication works better for type 2
diabetics than type 1. If your physician starts you on this, you may begin with a low dose (dial-up system), as 15 mcg, 30 mcg, 45 mcg, 60 mcg, then build finally to the 120 mcg dose level. Once up to this level, you begin seeing better results. Ask your MD about this product if you're not seeing good results already. It may help you as it does me. I have been using this since December 2007, along with my insulin. Make sure you check your blood sugar often, due to the possibility of drop in sugar results. YOu MUST be COMPLIANT when using this one.

IS GOOD WORKING FOR ME
never go over the nausea phase, even after 2 months.
While in the hospital for pneumonia they discovered I had diabetes. They gave me this injection.
Proseasy to use. pre meter dose.
ConsI just don't like needles.
Great for helping to control blood sugars. It "helps" the insulin work better. (Great if you become insulin resistant, like me.)
ProsHelps control blood sugars. Also helps to reduce weight (in some people, sometimes).
ConsNausea for a few days while getting "adjusted". Back to giving shots (if you're on pump therapy).
Lowers blood sugar after mealtimes by slowing down metabolism of sugars.
ConsMay cause/contribute to constipation. While taking this product, you may wish to take a regular laxative product also. I prefer Miralax on a daily basis.
