Add your reviewI quit taking it since Metformin cause renal failure in my husband.
@ June — I had kidney problems while on Glucophage. My kidneys shut down due to an infection and had to be dialyzed for 10 mos. When I woke up from having the chest tube implanted I was suddenly on insulin! , and have been on it ever since. I actually like insulin better. I feel I have better control.
I think metformin is not for everyone, it never was any help for me only immense stomach pain and damage kidneys, although research says it does not cause kidney damage. just not for me…glad it does help others
I take the 1000 mg and i do ok with it.. The side affects are not the best but the numbers make up for it.. I like it and always take it with food. I have taken it for 7 years.
Pros: cheap
Cons: upset stomach and gas
this drug made my live enzymes go thru the roof… had to stop it immediatly after the lab was discovered. Also had lots of digestive issues… How my numbers were good… I was on it as a prediabetic / medoblic resistaince and POCOS
This product works very good for me
Effective, but not for everyone.
diabetes.
ProsOnly effective on type 2
( Based on research info, not personal usage)
Cheap, affordable and effective in controlling type 2
diabetes if used early after diagnosis of such, and a diet plan is followed.

Contact your doctor or go to the emergency room if you experience any of these side effects.
I have been taking this for a while and have had no adverse affects.
ProsCheap
ConsNon that I can think of.
Metformin made me very sick for severl months, then found out that because my lactic acid levels are always high due to a mitochondrial mutation, I shouldn't have been taking this medication at all. Pay attention the the medication warnings and side effects.
ProsVery inexpensive and prescribed frequently because it works for most people. Preferred oral treatment for Diabetes.
ConsJust because it's cheap, beware of the adverse reactions.
my husband takes 500mg twice daily and it works well helps that we are now going to the gym daily and eating healthy but after three months his numbers are great.

Conscaused nausea
i am a type 1 diabetic who took way too much insulin. my doctor heard about studies with type i diabetics trying metformin with the insulin to lower the insulin intake. i am on 2000mg a day with insulin- and my insulin intake has came down from about 250 units a day to about 100 units a day!!! it has helped with my sugars soo much also! i love it ;)
Prosits a wonder drug. its also soo cheap! you can get a 3 month supply at target pharmacy for only $10!! thats cheaper than even going though my insurance!
Consat first, your stomach might get a little upset by it… but, if you can stick through it, it goes away and you will see a big difference in your sugars.
:)

I've been on several diabetes meds. Metformin, Glipizide XL,Januvia for several years. Nothing has really worked but i will say that it's my fault. I haven't been following my diet much. I take metformin at night because of the diarrhea.
ProsIf I follow my new eaating program & take my meds I should be OK. the Dr. just added 10cc's of Insulin to my regimen!
I have been on metformin since first diagnosed about 4 years ago. Seems to work for me; however, I need to do better with my food choices.
ProsCovered by my insurance.
ConsOccasionally some diahrea.
