October 14, 2008 11:13 PM Only been on it for a month and I'm still in the adjustment stage. My doc moves me up every night on the units I take, till he finds the right level. Pros:I'm still waiting to find out if this works for me. I guess I'll know more as I go, being newly diagnosed. Cons:My meal time spikes are quite high also. If I go over a certain amount of carbs, I end up with a glucose reading of 200 and up. That I can say is what is happening at this time. I'm still adjusting to all of this. As many are. |

October 12, 2008 12:13 PM I've been on Lantus for about 3 weeks now. I have noticed an overall decrease in my fasting blood sugars, including my morning DP. I am still in the "adjustment" phase meaning I am still adjusting the doses to find the one that will work for me permanently. Pros:1 shot, lowered my preprandial numbers overall. Cons:Does not cover mealtime spikes. If I eat anything with more than 10 carbs in a meal, my blood sugar spikes to over 200. |

October 12, 2008 12:10 AM I have been taking Lantus for a few years. I take 60 units in the morning and 60 before bed. I still wake up with high morning sugars. I just doesn't work for me. But my doc. swears by it and wants me to continue. I really feel there is no need. Pros:No side effects. For me at least. Cons:It is a shot. |

October 1, 2008 12:16 PM I have had pretty good results from Lantus. I take very little Humalog at breakfast lunch and dinner, then 40 Lantus before bed. Didn't realize it was suggested to be injected in buttocks, I use my lower abdomen.

September 22, 2008 10:23 AM Lantus did not work for me. Have been on it for several years and was unable to get blood sugars under control. I was taking 50 units twice a day and 10 units of regular insulin. Just been put on a pump and my blood sugars are finally in the normal range. Pros:Did not work for me Cons:Burns when injected. Caused to many hypoglycemic reactions during the night if I took it in the morning, and too many lows during the day if I took it at bedtime. |
