I began using Lantus exactly a year ago, and it seems to do the job as long as I behave myself. I take 22 units each evening. I still take Glyburide/Metformin.

Pros:

Easy to use and effective for me personally.

Cons:

None that I've found.

My insulins wwere switched a few years ago and I now use Lantus with Novolog. The Lantus works well for me. Having tightly controlled my levels, I was prone to hypoglycemic seizures. The Lantus has helped me manage diabetes with less shock than when I was on Regular insulin.

Pros:

90% less hypoglycemic episodes

Cons:

I use it at night but find that during the day I need to use the Novolog more frequently.

You can take twice a day if you take more than a hundred units sometime your Dr. will split the dose even if you don't take a hundred. I take 80 units in the morning and 80 at night.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Does not work to well for me. And it can make you gain weight. Especially if you take high doses.

Lantus is the only insulin I have ever used so I don't have anything to compare it with. I take 20 units at bedtime and I find it covers me all day, exept the occasional big meal.

I take 160 units a day and it does nothing for my blood sugar. Just like if I had taken nothing at all.

Cons:

Has made me gain a lot of weight. My Dr. warned me it might but he thought it was worth it if it worked.
