I first tried Lantus Solostar pens when I was in nursing school and my oral meds quit working. After 6 month I had good control of my fasting BGL, but quit taking it when the cost got to be too much (all student are broke...lol).

Pros:

Easily portable/disposable. No need to keep cool once opened and is good for 28 days at room temp.

Cons:

Cost

This is the only long acting insulin I've been on. It seems to work for me at the moment.

Pros:

I only have to take it once per day.

Cons:

I hate having to use needles.

Blood sugars were fine, but the insulin made me groggy, depressed, and unbelievably lethargic. I had these problems for the six months I took Lantus. They disappeared the day after I discontinued it.
