October 22, 2009 6:52 PM I have had Diabeties for 13 years and for the past 7 have been on lantus. Before I was put on an insulin pump I was taking 24units in the morning & 20 at bed. Pros:Lantus did seem to keep my glucose under control better. Cons:It did not work long enough for me I found out, I ended up in ICU with DKA several times when my Lantus stopped working. |

September 11, 2009 3:32 PM I take 50 units in a.m. and 50 units in p.m. and feel that it doesn't make the impact it should on my BS readings. I take Humalog during the day to cover my meals. Pros:I can go without eating and my BS levels don't go through the roof - so if I'm not hungry, Lantus seems to work well at helping me avoid rebound BS increases. Cons:I still have high readings in the mornings and have gained a lot of weight (probably about 20-25 pounds) in the past year. It's expensive if you don't have good insurance coverage. |

September 8, 2009 7:56 AM I do love this medicine, this medicine helps out so much!! Believe if you take it an your blood sugar is high it will bring it down pretty quick. It has mine, but if you take too much like my dr did me one time it will have you breaking into a cold sweat, it will make you feel like your skin is on fire, an it will make you hallucinate. These are the symptoms that I got until my dr got me on the right dosage. Pros:It stays with you for 24 hours. You only have to take it once a day. Cons:I haven't found anything wrong with this medicine an I have been on it for almost a yr. |

September 2, 2009 2:22 PM I enjoy the long lasting insulin. Pros:Very convenient-only once per day. Cons:My experience has been that Levemir works better-for me anyway. Lantus tends to give me more lows than Levemir. |
