Oatmeal is good & good for you. It's has fiber , magnesium, potassium, and calcium to help lower blood pressure. Folate protect against blood clots and hardening of the arteries and niacin , increases healthy HDL cholesterol Levels. .Choose slower cooking or One I never used is steel-cut oats. Will not raise BS as fast as fast cooking oats.

There's nothing more filling and good for you (if you know how to look up the right kind) than a hearty bowl of oatmeal in the morning- my personal favorite is Quaker Oatmeal! I grew up loving it ever since I was a little girl and I've never stopped loving it! You might even say that it's a big part of my family tradition- thank you for posting this as well!!!

I really like oats and agree it does not raise my bg like some other breakfast foods.

Howdy, Ceddyp
It is whole grain Oats which has been de-husked (Or maybe the term is de-hulled) and instead of making rolled oats of some kind, (oatmeal) it is run through a series of knives which cuts the oat grain into small pieces. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to fully cook it. It is not all that popular because of the long cooking time. But it is said to have the lowest glycemic index of all the oatmeals, which makes it better for us who have DM. I just brought some home from Trader Joe's and plan to have it for Bfast tomorrow and then check my BG#s an hour and then 2 hrs later to see what it does.

I eat old fashioned oatmeal every morning - i add a little salt and a little margarine - and it tastes might good to me … and I've purchased steel-cut but haven't tried it yet…does anyone know if spinach fettucine raises blood sugar?

hi,,
it's rainie64,
i always try to eat oatmeal..but honestly i do not like it and the instant has way too much sugar and salt…
if i could find a way to eat it that i liked that would help..for i know it's good for me…
and i do not like any of the instants that have been mentioned…
any others who do not love oatmeal??

I have a packet of Quaker Oats lower sugar oatmeal each morning. I add blueberries now and then and an almost no carb dairy product. I was doing two packets a day but am doing quite well with just one.

Least, Do try the recipe I gave below using the Kashi Go Lean. My mother's doctor recommended this Oatmeal as it metabolizes more slowly that many others therefore making the natural rise in glucose much slower. Give it a try with or without the added 1/2 banana, nuts, and cinnamon. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Definitely do the steel cut oats. Lower glycemic index. Add some protein with the meal and it works great.

I love oatmeal as well. Through reading I found that if you eat protein with foods like oatmeal it helps keep your blood sugar more stable.

I LOVE oatmeal! We eat it all the time!

But, oatmeal does tend to raise my sugars - and it is far more difficult to control them after a bowl of oatmeal than with most other foods! I guess everyone has different foods they have to be careful with…

I buy the Kashi Go Lean Truly Vanilla Flavor and prepare as follows in the microwave. I cook the water with the equivalent of 10 almonds sliced for one minute. I then add the packet of Kashi Go Lean Oatmeal and add cinnamon to it and cook it for another minute in the microwave. I then take that out and slice up 1/2 banana into the oatmeal and cook for one more minute and top it with more cinnamon on top. It tastes great, is healthy and doesn't seem to affect my blood sugar much as the oatmeal metabolizes slower than many others do. I hope some of you will try it and tell me what you think.

Enjoy!

I have been told by my doctor that I have to limit my oatmeal because of gout. I was given a list of foods to avoid and food to limit and foods I can eat. Now I am totally confused. Foods I know are healthy for me I have to now limit. AAHHHH!
