I have both loved and hated this pump. The wireless technology was the thing that brought me over to pumping at last and the freedom of the pump and being able to dual-wave bolus has kept me. However, I do experience pod failures more than I'd like and have lost a fair bit of insulin this way. Once the t:slim comes out in 2012, I think I'm going to jump ship.
I have been on the Omnipod since August after twenty years on injections. The biggest problem has been where to put the pod. I found out that it doesn't work well where I gave myself a lot of shots. I had built up scar tissue on my stomach. The best place is my left arm. Going to run out of spots there soon. The positives outweigh the negatives. I need to pay attention to where I have the pod and try not to run into door jambs or forget to allow for the placement when changing clothes, etc.. The staff have been wonderful even when they should have lost patience with my questions.I have actually taken a syringe and retrieved insulin out of pods that needed to be changed early. Might not be recommended, but I did it anyway. Nothing untold went wrong.
I have been trying to use the Omni Pod. I am currently using the Medtronic Mini Med pump. This pump actually has saved my life. I have found That the Pod has been more trouble than its worth. At least for me. I have tried to use support, but that has been a nightmare for me. Either the pumps adhesive lets loose, or the pod fails to communicate with the pdm. Either way my blood suger soars off the chart, and it takes a day or two too bring it back to normal. Thank god I still have the Med tronic to go back to. I would like for it to work but right know I do not trust it.
is a good product…great customer support. Really changed my entire diabetic life!
Pros
No tubing, very little pain. Great Cusomter Support…entire staff is on the Omnipod..so they know what yoiu're talking about.
Cons
A fiew fimes the pod has malfunctioned w/out explanation…sometimes the pod will seem not to work as well b/c of the location on your body…(usually the hip)…cannot be located in the same spot twice in a row. If the pod goes bad, the insulin in the pod is wasted.
i'm really interested in learning more about this pump.. had the medtronic a couple years ago.. only downfall with it was the tubing… so let me know what you think of this one please
I am a first time pump user after 30+ years of shots. I have been using the Omnipod for almost 2 years. I love the freedom of no tubing, the pod is waterproof- so you can swim, shower play in the ocean and not worry about your next dose. My life no longer revolves around when I have to take another dose!
Pros
It's waterproof, discreet, wireless and customer support has been awesome.
Cons
The pods can be affected by static electricity in the air. They can short-circuit.
I LOVE my OmniPod! Would highly recommend to anyone considering switching to the pump.
Pros
tubeless insulin delivery, painless cannula insertion, easy to use, low failure rate, great customer support, no more shots, and tighter control!
Cons
environmental waste (although OmniPod is starting a recycling program in August 2009 called EcoPod to help), software not supported on Mac OS X (so I have to have a partition of my hard drive with Windows installed for software and data downloads)
I've been on this since October of 2008. I was on a minimed for years, but it was like being on a leash. No tubes, it's unobtrusive, and I can swim in it. I live it.
Pros
No tubing- that's enough!
Cons
Only one type of strips can be used, and my insurance has the highest copay for them.
