Actos

By joeyd Added at March 13, 2008 Views 7,834 Reviews 97 3.70961 stars

Actos is a drug that increases your body's sensitivity to insulin. Another way to look at it is that when you take Actos, your body's insulin becomes stronger & more effective. Actos is available in 3 doses - 15mg, 30mg and 45mg. Most people take the 30mg or the 45 mg.

THIS REVIEW IS WAY OUT OF DATE: I've seen ads on television and in newspapers with a warning about AVANDIA and ACTOS. There is a class action lawsuit being developed (may have already been filed). The ad is calling out to people who've been taking either of these meds. The law firm is looking for people who've been taking either or both of them and have suffered heart accacks, strokes, and other serious health conditions as a result, and the families of any person whose taking the meds possibly lead to the death of that family member. If anyone is interested in having it, I will go back to the last ad I saw (I saved the recording just in case) and write out the name and phone number of the law firm for you. ;-) Mara

Yes! Actos is expensive! In order to get help paying for medications please check out pparx.com. It's a point of service site for pharmaceutical companies' assistance programs.

I have only been on Actos for 3 weeks and my sugar was running in the 300's with metformin now it will drop to 109 in an hour using actos. I have fluid retention but has been on Lasix 40 for at least five years, my joints ache but that could be the weather. So far so good. I have lost over 40 lbs in the last year and I am afraid that it will make me gain weight.

Is it true that this is a sister drug to Avdiana?

Actos and I have not had a good relationship. My blood pressure increased. (and unlike the stock market that is no good.) My weight increased by 20 lbs. (Metforman only caused a 10 lb gain and stomach problems.) My Depression increased, as did my migraines. In addition my blood sugar increased. I am not a happy camper.

Mine is with my metformin. Its 850mg metformin and 15mg actos. Works great plus my stomach doesn't get upset like my parents do. They take metformin by itself

It has worked in bringing my GL down although I have had to add metformin with mine. I am glad though that they have a combination pill that I can take at one time.

Pros

Easy to take, effective, and in a combo with metformin, my bs is in control.

Cons

I've heard it effects the teeth and that could be what is changing my dental appointments but I will take the cure over the side effect.

I have been on Actos for 6 years now, since my diagnosis in Dec, 2003. Works well, but dosage is now maxed out at 45 mg per day.

Pros

Helps reduce blood sugar in the system.
Can be used in combination therapy.

Cons

Takes a few weeks to get into the system.
only 3 dosage levels available

My doctor added actos to my med regimen. I take in combination with glucophage XR and she is very happy with the results. I did notice some swelling in my feet, so my doctor gave me furosemide, for the water retention and I am doing fine.

I am re-posting this to those who might not have seen it…

Pros

If you pay any portion of the cost of Actos (no Medicare or Medicaid, etc) call 1-888-838-9866 to request info on the rebate program to reimburse up to $50 paid out of pocket. I have been getting reimbursed for my Actos for about a year and a half.
