Add your reviewwalgreens have them for $29.95 next to the meters
you only need 1 A1c a year and hopefully you see your doctor once a year so why not let a professionl do your A1c
Yes, that is a convenient function. I used to have something similar on my One Touch Ultra that gave a 60 day overview. My newer One Touch Mini doesn't have this feature. :(
The Bayer A1C kit is about $30 and is good for two tests. The instrument does a countdown so you know whether you have 2, 1, or no tests left on it. It does not take refills. You must buy another $30 kit. Regardless, at $15/test done quarterly like your doctor would that is only $60/year. The A1C gives the average reading of your blood glucose over the preceding three months, so you really don't need to use this test more frequently.
It's actually fairly easy to use. There are lots of directions and they sound complicated, but you can just outline about three steps and it's done. You know your A1C within 5 minutes.
I still do not know where i can or find a refill for the a1c i checked all the web sites i just do not want to buy the a1c now box every few days ?
yes i gree with VaHermit I bought it at walgreens and it cost me $30.00 but walgreens had a coupond and i got it for $25.00 I used up my two strips and it a lot of money to get a refill
my thing is where do you get the refills for the ac1 tester
I asked my Dr. about it he said he knows people who have had good success with the product it is a little expensive, but cheapier than a lab visit
Thanks for the input VaHermit. Your input is both valuable and appreciated.
I bought one a while back, have not used it…read all the instructions and the only thing I can say it>>>IT IS VERY Confusing and complicated. I am not sure I can do it correctly. It was $30 and to me a waste, IF you do not have insurance its sure cheaper than the LAB. IF one is not good with small items and don't see well I would advise having some one do for you rather than waste the test. The other thing is I don't believe many advertisers tell you up front the machine is not refillable. It comes with 2 tests and you cannot buy more you must buy a whole kit. Mine is the Bayer and the ad I read said nowhere it was disposable and no refills available.
Pynetree: Thanks for your input, and thanks for being a test bunny. ;-) Mara
Well, I participated in a free (best kind) Bayer A1cNow at CVS , the funny part was that from my daily testing I figured it would come in at 5.5 to 5.9. The tech looked at the result, and said…"let's do this over…I think the digital print-out might not be functioning…it looks like the lines that make up the numbers are not all lighting." So he did it again, and said" hummm, it looks like it's a five, not an 8. So it is 5.7." He thought the first was wrong, that it should have been an 8, because most of his Diabetic patients were higher. I told him my expectations were right on, and showed him my tracking book.
So I'm a fan. I'd buy them. The cost there at CVS, at the time, was $19.99, which did two A1c test. The accuracy compared to the Lab results taken by my Dr. was right on target!
Auburn Bill: Thanks for your input. If that works for you, then that's fine. But that only gives you a three-month average of your blood sugar levels. Do you know how to convert that into A1c numbers? I wouldn't want to rely on that myself. I like having my labs done at the Clinic's Lab. I reviewed the product because there are other members who don't have insurance, so they needed an alternative.
My Lifescan meter showa me up to a monthly average, I record the average in my BS daily nooklet at the end of the month, then take the 3 months average for my average A1C reading, prety close to the doctors A1C… Grandpa Bill
Tommy: Thanks for your response and for sharing your experience with us. What you have done is nothing short of amazing, and I salute you! You must realize, though, that not everyone who has Diabetes is overweight. And, what worked for you may not work for everyone. Also, low carb is a relative thing. The complex carbs are good carbs, and if we don't get enough carbs while eating lots of protein, it could make us sick. I don't know about everyone else, but my RD wants me to eat well-balanced meals.
The problem with this is,,Why is it that only the major manufactures come up with these so-called help tools? There are a lot of us that just can't afford to change all of our tools. These tools need to be made to work with all meters. I still say,,if you eat low-carb meals and exersize, you will lose weight and have better control of your BG numbers. I know it worked for me as I have lost 164 pounds since I was diagnosed with type 2.
I have found that if I do three basic things that I have control in weight loss and BG numbers. Low-carb, high protein, and walking every day. Just an idea. Works for me. God bless my DC family
PS. I was diagnosed in August 2009.
annalease: Where do you live? Most cities have a Walmart, or else one close by. Otherwise, you could try Walmart Online. I'm not promoting Walmart. It's just that I read below about a price at a pharmacy that was twice as much as the Walmart price. ;-) Mara
Walgreens has them. At least they do here in the Memphis area.
I've seen it at CVS in the section where they sell the diabetes monitors.
Where can I find this machine? I would love to know my A1C is. But I just cannot locate one. Can anyone out there lend me a helping hand?
