<p>A Shelbyville toddler will be participating in a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) fundraising walk to cure diabetes in St. Louis on September 28. </p>
<p>At 14 months of age, Alissa Shasteen, daughter of Nick and Jamie Shasteen, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, also known as Type I diabetes.</p>

<p>A NEW case of diabetes is diagnosed every three minutes in the UK, figures have revealed.</p>
<p>The number of people developing the condition is soaring faster than ever, the charity Diabetes UK say.</p>
<p>Figures show that almost 150,000 people were diagnosed in 2008 - up from 100,000 the previous year.</p>
<p>A new study from the Health Department reveals huge gaps in the care that New Yorkers with diabetes receive. </p>
<p>Some 500,000 New York City adults have been diagnosed with diabetes; 200,000 more have the condition but don't know it. </p>
<p>"Diabetes continues to plague our city," said Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, New York City Health Commissioner.</p>
