Diabetic suing Dollywood for sugared soda mixup

William Kinne is diabetic, and in a suit filed Friday, he says he made that very clear to his waitress at Dollywood's Back Stage Restaurant.

Kinne says he ordered a Diet Coke and asked the waitress repeatedly to be sure it was diet, after he noted it tasted strange.

i totally agree. the man had several large cokes. obviously he was there for quite some time, and not once did he check his blood sugar? all you have to do is carry some diastix and do a quick dip to check sodas. i do it all the time when out.

The article doesn't indicate if the man had type 1 or type 2 diabetes. In either case, (but especially type 1), he should have been able to prevent this situation before it got to that extent.

What was he doing eating in a restaurant without having a glucose meter with him? If he was type 1, why didn't he have any insulin with him?

It is clear that the restraunt was wrong in having Coke syrup attached to a Diet Coke dispenser, this probably isn't all that unusual an experience. I've read on some's blog how she always carries Diastix in her purse and can quickly check to see if a drink is diet or not.
