I think perhaps you misunderstood what the article was saying. It is trying to point out that there are many tests that are "routinely" ordered without regard to your personal or family health history. Each item on the list includes the exceptions—meaning that you should NOT skip the test if you have a family history etc.

The recommendation is exactly what you're pointing out: know your family history and make sure you get tested for the right things. BUT you can skip a number of routine tests if you have no risk factors or family history of that disease.

This article needs a big fat ZERO!! What idiot wrote this??
1. Know your family history and family genetics.
2. Always have blood work done, it is the cheapest form of diagnostic testing! I have my blood work up done twice a year…it is what keeps me alive!! It gives the Dr. a road map of how my med's need to be adjusted.

Nice to know there are some tests that are not necessary, when so many doctors are doing much too much testing!
