We have arranged for Jessica Gibbons, a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian, to field some of your most important questions. Jessica has over a decade of experience teaching people with diabetes about nutrition, exercise, medication management, carbohydrate counting, and the latest in diabetes management technology.
We recognize the tremendous good that has been done here as members have come together to share all that we’ve learned and to support each other. However, we also recognize that there are times that we really need an expert to weigh in and teach us all.
Submit your questions below for Jessica. We hope to make this a permanent feature of the site. For now, we're testing the idea. Please note that Jessica may not be able to answer all of the questions submitted in this first round. We’ll do our best to get as many answered as we can. Thank you for your understanding.

May 9, 2009 8:37 PM I am having a very hard item finding a diabetic doctor in central Texas. They are building a new hospital a few miles away and the other one which is new is adding on. But there are no diabetic Doctors for over 40 50 50 miles. Some of the doctor no longer take diabetic patients. I found a doctor who had DO after her name. She said she is "willing: to take me on. This is very sad. |

May 9, 2009 7:27 PM Since 1990 MY WIFE has been trying to RECOVER from HER first NAJOR SURGERY at UVA MEDICAL CENTER! Either the INS. or the h.h.AGEBCIES, keep STABING HER in the BACK! DUE to this type of ABUSE by either the SYSTEM or AGENCY, WE are NOW TEMPARILY SEPARETED! IF I treated HER like they have, I'D be in JAIL! "HELP!" PLEASE CALL: 540=793-4023 to do so! THANK |

May 9, 2009 6:47 PM Hi Jessica - Can you please give me advice as to how to increase my metabolic rate/metabolism? I want to lose weight but seemingly I am at a standstill. I am unable to increase my excercise any more than what I am doing currently. Are there certain foods that increase your metabolism? Is there anything I can add to my regular diet to give it a boost in my metabolic rate? I am a 54 yr old female and I take Metformin, Novolog + Lantus Insulins daily. I need to lose approx. 50 more pounds but restricting calories is not enough! Thanks! |
