We have arranged for Jessica Gibbons, a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian, to field some of your most important questions. Jessica has over a decade of experience teaching people with diabetes about nutrition, exercise, medication management, carbohydrate counting, and the latest in diabetes management technology.
We recognize the tremendous good that has been done here as members have come together to share all that we’ve learned and to support each other. However, we also recognize that there are times that we really need an expert to weigh in and teach us all.
Submit your questions below for Jessica. We hope to make this a permanent feature of the site. For now, we're testing the idea. Please note that Jessica may not be able to answer all of the questions submitted in this first round. We’ll do our best to get as many answered as we can. Thank you for your understanding.

RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH A BURNING SHOOTING PAIN IN MY LEFT FOOT. THE PAIN IS EXCRUSIATING. I'VE TRIED IBUPROPHEN, BUT TO NO AVAIL! THANKS.
I try to limit my carb to 3 carb servings per meal. that is 45 grams of carbs at each sitting.
hi do you count carbs i am on a insulin pump i eat 50 carbs per meal my carb ratio is 20 carbs to one unit of humalog insulin everyone is different i too go to a clinic i applied for ss a year ago still waiting the clinic gives me alot of things but i too cant wait to seee a good dr on a reg basis
Lets say you have a meal dose of 10 units of Humalog and then you eat what you want and the dose was not enough after 2 hours check your BG Level and then take another dose to cover your higher BG level.
A better way though is to fix your plate, check your level and then put away the rest of the food before you sit down to eat. I have found doing this not only is my BG level down after I have had my meal it stays down longer and then I usually make my self a small snack and have it sitting in the Frig. now so as not to over eat at snack time and I stay out of the kitchen till the next meal is being made that has helped me alot.
When you test your blood sugar and it is higher than it should have been, if you injected insulin to cover the increase, why wouldn't that be effective and how long would it remain elevated? Specifically, sometimes I give myself insulin to cover what I think I wll eat and then the food tastes so good, I have more than I thought I planned to eat.
