Do you get them same place, look for bargains, freebies?
Does anyone have a cheap outlet?

I get all my pump supplies from Medtronic. Everything else I get from Shopper's Drug Mart.

I don't really look around for bargains; also since I live in Canada, it seems that insulin (especacially the analog insulins) costs considerably less here.

Aaron,

It seems that alot of meds cost less in Canada and other countries that it does here....just another way that we get kicked in the pants so to speak..

Hi NamVet,
Are you a veteran? If so you can get your supplies free or just a small co-pay. My husband gets his supplies from Vets, and the test strips he gets from medicare,so do i.We don't have to pay anything for these. I guess we are older than you he is 68 and i am 62,i had to leave my job of 30 years and go out on disability.I hope this helps some. If I can be of help please let me know.

I do get all my Meds, supplies,Pumps, everything free from the VA.
I feel I paid dear for that tho. As they say I took one for the Gipper.
But in asking this question, I wanted to see how we make it with out Insurance or Medicare, or whatever to just make it??

vgarrison replied October 8, 2008 8:25 AM

At first before I had insurance, I paid out of pocket.....The day I got out of the hospital we went to Walgreens and paid over 250.00 to get all my supplies...the lancets, test strips, my lantus cost 99.99 a vial, I was also put on potasium..that was 15.00. Thank goodness my husband is a perpetual procrastinator or we would have been SOL. He hadn't paid a couple of bills yet, so the money was there, and thank goodness for friends and family for helping to get those bills paid a few days later.

So basically here I was newly diagnosed and scared out of mind, thinking...oh my goodness if this disease doesn't kill me, the bill collectors are going to.........

WELL LIKE YOU I AM A VET AN I GET MY SUPPY FROM THE VA AN ITS AT A COST OF 9 BUCKS PER MONTH PER ITEM. BUT ITS BETTER THAN I CAN GET ON MEDACARE. FOR INSULIN IT COSTS 36 A BOTTLE, AN I WONT EVEN LOOK AT THE REST OF MY SUPPLIES THAT I NEED FROM THE LOCAL SUPPLIERS.

Nobody orders stuff online?

Here are some great places to go:

www.diabetesandmore.com

www.diabetesnet.com (the Diabetes Mall)

www.insulincase.com (Insulin Case Shop)

Best,

When I said I order pump supplies from Medtronic, I meant that I ordered it from their website (so I guess that counts as on-line).

Another useline on-line site for Canadians is http://diabetesexpress.ca/ (Diabetes Express - a pharmacy in Toronto that ships throughout Canada).

I get all my meds and supplies at wal-mart. Unless it's a brand name only, then I get it filled closer to my house at Publix or Sweetbay. With insurance it would be 20$ anywhere I went. I am so thankful that I now have insurance and my test strips are covered. 20$ for a box of 100. Sure does beat that 95$. When I was Dx with T2 I had no idea how expensive this was gonna be.

I get my supplies from United States Medical Supply, Inc. Toll free phone # 1-800-787-6331 I have not only gotten my diabetic supplies from them, but supplies for my COPD, and a moist heating pad for my arthritis. They handle talking with my doctor and dealing with my insurance. They do all the paper work. I haven't had to pay a penny for any of my supplies. Hope this info helps.

BobMWade replied February 5, 2009 11:08 AM

I signed up for the Walgreens prescription plan, only available to people without insurance. So i get all my medications there.

For supplies though I shop on ebay. Usually i get about 200 strips/200 lancets for around $30. You just can't beat that price. I think doctors get machines for free from the companies that make them and give them free test strips as well, and a lot of times these wind up on ebay because I just don't see how so many people can have every imaginable type of test strip at a fraction of the retail price, unless these are from people that got them free or cheaper with insurance.

Deleted User replied February 9, 2009 2:14 AM

I get my insulin through my local pharmacy, and all pump supplies are on automatic reorder through Medtronic.

Thank goodness the insurance has is a great company!

With the lay-offs my husbands company has suffered recently, I am very afraid I may not be able to stay on the pump, and I was horrible with taking the 4 shots a day.

in Ireland when you have type one you go on to the long term illness cert. That allows type ones to get their supplies for free in their local chemist.

If we need a new glucose kit or ketone kit we just go to the diabetes day centre and ask for a new one and get them there and then!! to buy insulin aint cheap! i use novorapid and lantus and to but its 180 euro for a box containing 5 pens!!

I got my last 2 meters, lancet, and current test strips, control solutions, meter batteries at doctor diabetic supply. ... https://www.doctordiabetic.com/index.asp Today, I just dicovered on there site they also carry syringes. going to see about getting them here also as I pay copay at local pharmacy (rite aid), but everything is covered in full for me without co pay at doctor diabetic supply. they also replaced my meter free that went for a dive overboard when I was fishing out in the lake last summer.

I get my test strips off e-bay and have been doing this for two years. It's been the cheapest--even cheaper than any sites or companies that help people with little or no insurance. I recently filled out a survey about diabetes on the internet and received a call from a salesman promising he could save me a lot of money on testing strips.

When I told him about my cost on e-bay, he quite literally didn't know what to say other than he could not offer me a better deal. I use the one touch-ultra meter and have NEVER paid more than $45.00 for 100 strips on e-bay. In fact, I just recently purchased 100 strips for $35.00!

SteveM replied May 7, 2009 11:30 PM

$20 for 100 strips - 1 touch ultra

I found a website that has some One Touch Ultra strips dated 05/2009, and they have reduced the price to move them. (I thought $40 was a good price last month!). Don't know how many they have, but you'll probably never see them this cheap again. These work with several one touch ultra meters, including the free one (One Touch Ultra Mini) they've been giving away for the past couple of months. Here's the url:

I recently started getting my insulin from a friend that works at a nursing home, that nursing homes policy is to throw away patients insulin as soon a new prescription is filled. Most of the time the insulin hasn't even been used.

I can't get insurance so this saves me over $1000 a month on the two types of insulin I need.

Might be a good idea to check around your town to see if there are other places with this policy.

I have Kaiser here in California. I get my pills via their online pharmacy and my insulin at their pharmacy at the hospital. It tends to work out best for me that way. Especially since my pecriptions are now down to zero refills, they just get one of their staff doctors to sign off and I get it refilled. My syringes are on an open pecription and so is my Insulin, all others have set refills.

I try to compare prices I started at Walgreen's, but I've seen cheaper prices at the local warehouse clubs like Sam's and costco. I also have to pay cash no insurance at the time.
