went to the doctor today, and my a1c is down to an 8. when i started seeing her it was at 12.5 and that was only 3 months ago. she said she was very proud of my progress and that im headed in the right direction. which makes me happy since i ignored my diabetes for several years. the mentality of "if i pretend it doesnt exist it will go away." then my aunt died from complications and it was a huge wake up call.

Anonymous March 20 at 11:08 pm0 LikesHey my name is maley ,and im 11 i have diabetes too. My a1cs were like 9.7 when i went to the doctor. Do you know if you are type 1 diabetic you should really look into something called an omnipod. Its a pump and its cordless and its waterproof. it also features alot more. if your interested you should go to myomnipod.com. youd really ike it and you can also tell friends who have it hard with diabetes. ya know you cant let it control you, you gotta control it.

I see everyone is very concerned about a1c, so am I. I am diappointed with mine because it was lower a year ago. My Dr has now prescribed two new medications. I am changing my diet, its the exercise that I have trouble with.

Just do as I did start slow, have somebody with you to talk to and it will pass quicker than you think. I started with 15 minutes now up to over a hour and have increase my speed. It takes time, but I believe you can do it.

For some people exercise is 2nd nature and for others it may feel like a chore. So, I agree start off slow 15mins once or twice a wk. I 1st started off using the steps at my job and then walking during my breaks and then that turned into 45min to 1hr work out at the gym. Trust me lol.. this didn't happen overnight and I started out with a workout buddy. But when there schedule changed and no longer wanted to workout I had to be discipline and do it alone. Start off slow don't set a goal that you know is unrealistic in the beginning. Keep at it.

Good on ya, tink2707!
Now, give us some details! For example, since you stated that your A1C was 12.5 three months ago and now it's down to 8, ya gotta tell us how you did it!
I personally am very interested as I will get my next A1C test at the end of this month and my PA doesn't think it will be much lower than a 9, and I started at 11 at the first of this year. I have tried everything to get my BS down, in addition to being on Metformin and Actos. Everyone knows I am working like a borrowed mule to get my BS under control, but maybe I'm missing something?
But don't misunderstand me here, I think it's awesome that your A1C results are so good! Congratulations…and yeah, you are definitely on your way to good health and potential parenthood should that be what you dream of!

i was on metformin and actos as well at first. but it wasnt working my fasting number was still over 200 and sometimes closer to 300. so in the beginning of january she switched me to insulin. levemir at bedtime and novolog before meals. and that's helped a lot. it lowered my blood sugar numbers. also im on a low carb diet, no more than 30grams per meal. but i usually do more at breakfast, and less or none at all at dinner. im also on my feet a lot, i work in retail as a customer service manager so i do a lot of moving at work, and i walk at least 20 minutes on the treadmill on my days off.

I am sorry you lost a relative. That is always difficult.
Its sounds as if you are on the right path now. You should be
pleased that your A1C is now down to 8. Keep up the great
work. Whatever you are doing its working. -

Sorry to hear about your aunt, but sometimes it takes something like that to cause us to decide we need to do something different. You are moving in the right direction, and proud of you. That little doll you are holding in the picture will be happy about your decision too.

actually that "little doll" is me. almost 30 years ago. the man holding me is my dad.
