I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in May 2008. I have a family history of diabetes and lost my mother to it about the same time as my diagnosis. It was definitely a wake-up call.
Since then I've lost nearly 40 lbs which was a pleasant side effect of limiting my carb intake. I'm exercising more and bringing my bg levels and blood pressure under better control.
From reading the discussions here, it looks to be a great forum.

I lost 60 pounds my first year too and it helps a lot. I look forward to you sharing how you did it and how you are getting the control of your numbers. That is something we all can use help in. LOL
Enjoy the site, I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi, Rick and welcome! Congratulations on your "side effects". Obviously, you're doing good things for yourself. You have my sympathy for the loss of your mother. Whenever that occurred, whatever her age and circumstance, it is a difficult loss.
I joined here in December 2009 (or January?) after being diagnosed with diabetes. One of our children found the site for me and recommended it (knowing that I thrive best on mutual support).
I am doing "okay" but struggle quite a bit with, I guess, denial and lack of care about myself. I am not accustomed to taking care of myself well and am struggling hard (at 53 years old, no less) to be more loving, caring, and mature.
No one in my family, as far as I know, ever had diabetes — but I do not know my father's family history. I would not want my children to say one day (as you have) that they lost their mother to diabetes — ESPECIALLY because I didn't do things to lower risk.
Thanks for the introduction. "Talk" soon!
Best,

my dear , the office has been moved to another continent (I'm serious , it has been in Europe but now in Asia:) and it's now very far from home.I wake up very early and have to make an intercontinental driving (you know I mentioned before that driving is not my best skill.I'm driving like a traffic monster:) .This makes me very tired and I'm trying to get use to this new life. That's why I've been not around recently.Otherwise I love you too my friend…By the way , seriously , you look fantastic :)
