Medformin

I've been on it for about one month. Within the first few weeks, I noticed a huge difference. My fasting blood sugar was in the 150s or 160s when I started and now I'm around 111-115. I've also lost just over 10 lbs.

I have completely changed the way I eat. I have found that the meds help me to not feel as hungry so it makes it very easy to eat less. Meats and veges are my first priority now.

I've also discovered that eating right helps you stay out of the bathroom as often.

My glucose levels have been lower but my stomach is still protesting.
I shouldn't lose weight…my doctor said that I need to keep an eye on weight loss and inform her if I lose.
My levels were never over 140 fasting so I guess no need to be concerned…you all think it will pass, right?

Here is a tip from my pharmacist… take half a pill with food then 30 minutes later take the other half. It helped me. As time has gone by, my stomach isn't as bad…unless I eat something sweet or high fat. Also if I'm going to town, I take Amodium. That helps. I wouldn't recommend it on a regular basis…gets you backed up!

Just remember not to do that with the XR version. That has a special coating that becomes useless if you cut the pill.

I am a new member to this site; and its great to discuss symptoms with other diabetics. But for medformin, isn't it suppose to be combined with another drug to work effectively? I take medformin along with another pill (can't recall the name right now) I'm not at home.

It can be taken with other meds or on it's own. Just depends on the situation.

I'm not sure about that. I'm actually taking it for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. So, I'm taking it by itself. The bonus has been that it has lowered my bs levels. The only other thing I'm doing is watching what I eat.

You should be a doc…you have all the answers to everyone's questions! lol

It can take up to 4-6 weeks to get fully going for some people. However, it won't help stabilize blood sugars at all unless you help it with diet and exercise.

To my knowledge and experience, metformin does work better if joined by weight loss and healthy living.

Of course everyone is different and it depends on how high your numbers were to begin with. But, you should begin to feel better soon and I agree, diet and exercise are very important.

It can take a couple of weeks for your system to get the full benefit and with the proper diet and exercise you should start seeing you numbers come down pretty soon after you start dieting

What I mean is, "When will I feel good again"?
