Hi Friends! I am new here, and hope I'm not over stepping any boundaries. We have no insurance. I am a type 2 diabetic, my 2 year old son is type 2 (I have to check his levels every 2 hours!!) Ans my mother is type 1.

We are in desperate need of supplies as none of us are insured! We can afford a very small amount to pay, no more than $5 - $10/box.

Please let me know if you can help, or know of where we can get help. Thank you very much & God Bless!

You may want to list your meter. Sometimes we are given new meters due to circumstances, yet still have strips for the old one that are still good, but can no longer use. I had to change due to having surgery on all my fingers, I could no longer handle the strips-so I got a accu-check compact-where the drum stores the strips. So I gave away the strips I had for my old meter that were still good.

1. Call strip manufacturers and see what they will give you and don't be afraid of being pushy. Most will have programs to help and they will all give you at least some free strips and a free meter if you push enough. If you can get 50 strips from 5 different manufacturers that will help for a while.
2. Call local diabetes associations. There is usually an ADA, JDRF and an independent association in or close by every major city who will offer direct assistance and help finding local programs that will also help.

I am so sorry! I recently had this problem. I applied for medicaid which your son should automatically get with the no child left behind law. They atleast have to cover your son. When I applied they gave me a 350.00 spend down each month because of my income. You are required to spend 350.00 a month before medicaid will pick up any services. THE PLUS...they will cover all diabetic supplies, meter, test strips, etc for free regardless. It would not hurt applying. Good Luck!

abbott diabetes offers free testing suppllies to people with diabetes who are un insured and low income so if you qualify you will get all the strips and lancets and possibly meters to test. However you have to have your doctor sign the form and write a prescription for the products wich is to include how many times a day you test. you can get the forms on most prescription connection sites such as www.pparx.org

I would try overstockdrugstore.com, they usually have good prices on strips and also have some clearance items. I recently lost my insurance and they were able to help me choose a cheaper strip and gave me a free meter.
