I am a 54 yr. old mom, and it's alittle complicated, I am type 2 diabetic, it started when I was about 11, I was put in the hospital, to start on insulin and then they (the drs.) discovered I spill high content of glucose in my urine. I am diet controlled as most medicines side effects are worse, than watching what I eat. Really Happy I found you, because I have another issue, my son, Ian age 15 is much to my dismay a Type 2 insulin dependant who just believes as young people do that none of his organs will ever be effected, not true and he has other issues of a mental health type, Bipolar, ADHD, depression, mood disorders etc, etc, he is a bright young man, but is is super hard for him, I am looking for kind people like yourselves to help him and us on our journey. I will try to get him to sign up as well but he is very resistant. He is seen at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Thank you one and all. Please contact me with any help or insight you can offer me.

    I pray that Ian will overcome his resistance and join this site, because I believe, as you seem to Robyn that this may do him a world of good.

    I feel for Ian and know a bit of what he may be going through as I also, in addition to diabetes, have ADHD. I have known since my teens that I was sort of "different" but just recently I was officially diagnosed with ADHD. I don't have personal experience with BiPolar disorder, but have a couple good friends who exhibit the kind of behavior described as BiPolar. So I hope & pray that he joins us. Being diabetic in my 50's is a real drag, I can only imagine what it is like for a teenager who has just received a DX.

    Have you looked into a pump for him it will be a lot better for me to keep his BS in line then the shots
    And it is cool lol

    I to have a son 21 with mental health issues, which hit us out of the blue. We being mothers, the reaction for us is to protect our babies and to worrie. But thank goodness my son now on med's for the time being is able to deal with everyday life and work his job too. It's brought us as a family much closer and he know's we are their to help him whenever he needs it. But he had to end up in the hospital to realize he had a problem. Sometimes something has to happen or hit close to home for them to understand what we as parents are trying to tell them. And that we wouldn't tell them anything that would hurt them in any way. So hold on to faith and I pray that Ian will come around soon, so that he can stay healthy. Im also a new type 2 diabetic which was scary for the entire family to find out, especially my 3 sons. They watch me daily test my blood levels exercise through the neighborhood, and they know why I have to do it. Cause I want to be around to see my children grow up and become adults. Hope it gets better for you too. I'll pray that it does for us both. Mean while hold your head up high, your being a real mom!!
