Yes licking your fingers can throw your readings off.

Make sure your hands are thoroughly dried after you wash them as well because that can dilute the blood and throw it off as well.

Clean, dry hands are essential for as close to an accurate reading as possible. Once I peeled an orange for my sister and forgot to wash my hands before I tested and my reading was much higher then it should have been.

I think that if you get a high reading and you are questioning the results you should always do the reading again just to make sure you get an accurate reading

yes this is possible you should wash your hands with soap and water dry with papper towell then wip the finger your going to test with alcohal on a cotten ball or use alcohal wipes. even though i do this i can some times get a differant reading as well.

When I get ready to test I get my meter and lancet device out then I use a hand sanitizer before I get the strip out.

Doing this my readings are within the limits I am use to getting. Dan

I've had the same thing happen to me. I'll take one reading and it's way higher than expected. I take it again right away from a different finger and it's closer to what I expected. I have thought I had something sweet on the first finger & that's why the high reading. It could be something like Darly said.

Then there have been times when I get readings little different from the first, which may be a liver dump of glucagon into bloodstream for one of a number of various reasons - fighting infection is one -

So if you get a higher than expected reading do another test on another finger or even the other hand, then take whatever action your Dr has instructed.

That is not a strange question at all. If you licked your fingers and had just eaten something sweet,or such it is possible that it would make your reading higher, you should test again to make sure though.
