I've had good success with the vitamin regime I found in the book "Reversing Diabetes" which is for sald in the Books section of this site. His theory is that your body washes vitamins out along with high sugars, and thus diabetics need to take higher doses of vitamins than non-diabetics. Took about a year and a half for my feet pains to actually go away, but absent now for a year.

I have just started having some foot neuropathy-I have had severe arthrics for years and have worn metal arches for 40 years. However, the neuropathy is something else. I also have shingles neuropathy from repeated outbreaks to the point now I am on antiviruals all the time. For the shingles neuropathy, which goes from my hip to my knee, I was told to use a capsacian product as it over taxes the sensation and most of the time will stop it. You don't need a lot of it, I only use small amounts. So when I had the pain on my sole from the diabetic neuropathy, I put a little dab on my sole, put my socks on and went to bed. By morning, I finally had relief. I do not know if it will work with everyone, but if you look up shingles neuropathy, which, at least to me, 100 times worse that my diabetic neuropathy as you feel your whole leg is on fire, it has helped. I would be careful and never use between toes, but it is worth a little try and see if it works for you.

That really sounds nasty KGB. My foot and leg (and other body parts) pain, tingling and burning doesn't sound so bad.

If anyone is interested I recently posted an article about a possible treratment for Diabetic Neuropathy (and I recently read where it was useful for shingles too) I had learned of at the ADEMS meeting when I was living in Las Vegas last year. It is called Anodyne light therapy (or Monochromatic Infrared Photo-Thermal Energy or MIREā„¢) . I had seen an advert on it on a website, and thought I'd see if there were articles about it. and I found several. Perhaps some of you might find the article — and the therapy useful.

I saw their ad a year or so ago and wondered if that was legitimate or not. Glad to hear you've found it helps you!

For anyone who has Medicare, one of the things you are entitled to 1 X /year is a new Diabetic shoe. You can get a prescription for them from a podiatrist (you have to have your tonails clipped anyway) I and my wife have gotten ours this year. I have neuropathy, and it helps a bit. They fit them with specially created insoles done by a computer pressure map of my foot (my wife has them too and she loves them) We got ours through a store called Foot Solutions.

I also have bad pain on bottom of feet when I am on them,or walking. I also have problems w/hips (arthritis) and leg pain, also weak ankles. I never thought of using the gel inserts or getting another type of sneaker, good suggestions here, thank you. I also go off balance a lot for some reason..wondering if using the cane I have here will help me out more, don't really want to use it though, but if it will help me I should consider it. Sorry for rambling on…seem to do that a lot!

birkenstock is a shoe that has a sole that your feet will just
shape in to after you wear them I ordered mine from QVC.com the tv station log on and read the reviews that people who own them have to say.

"At the time of dx I was experiencing shooting pains in my legs and feet, numbness, circulation was poor,

one of the things that has helped me was Alpha Lipoic Acid, I take 600mg a day, some take as much as 1800mg a day. The shooting pains are gone, my feet do not ache anymore.

I started it right after diagnosis in March and within the first 4 weeks I noticed a difference."

this is from another blogger but wanted to add it in because it really worked for my husband.

I agree with the alpha liopic acid, it does wonders and fast,! I've been taking it for about 3 yrs now, still loving it. I also find that if i switch the pressure from one foot to the other thru out the day, the pain ain't so bad, and believe me, I'm on my feet 12-16 hrs a day!

I would try some gel inserts, and stay away from thin soles shoes. I wore "crocs" for about three years, at work, home, and even in the pool, because they were so lightweight and easy to put on.(I had trouble tying laces embarassed to say). But they are really thin also, and aren't good for support.
A visit to the podiatrist would be a consideration also.

Watch out for numbness and tingling; but definitely talk to your doctor about the pain. Also watch for areas that are open. Never put anything irritating on your feet, like harsh creams, since that can cause cracks or sores. All of this per my doctor.

I've seen the cream at Walgreen's and wondered about it myself. The thin sole flats I used to wear to work also made my feet hurt. By switching to some that had more cushioning they're doing better. Have also found the gel-inserts provide relief on some shoes. It'd be nice to wear something more fashionable, but I don't worry about that too much anymore. Give me comfort from knowing I'm not damaging my feet and I sleep better nowadays!
