I would like to know if you would get the seme reacation if you inject your insulin in the belly or thigh. eventhough you were told to do it in the belly. So you can save on sore spots.

I never injected in my thigh but have in my belly and my arms. As everyone said as long as it's in fatty tissue.

It takes much longer for the insulin to enter your system when injecting in the thigh or buttocks. This is a good way to inject long acting insulin like Lantus. Not so good for fast acting insulin like Humalog

ONeil replied October 23, 2009 1:34 AM

oaky, I am on Levemier long action Insulin, but I will try the thigh to give my belly a rest
Thank you

This was a great question that I did not know the answer even. So thanks for a great question...I will keep this in mind if I have to use insulin again. Hugs! Sheila

I'm pretty big in the belly, but have bird legs. So for me I rotate around the belly, and every once in awhile in the legs. If I start getting bruises, I just don't inject there for a few days.

ONeil replied October 23, 2009 1:50 AM

I JUST NEEDED A NEW PLACE TO INJECT THE INSULIN SO I JUST DON'T HAVE ONE SPOT ON MY BODY TO GET ALL THE INJECTION . BECAUSE MY BELLY IS GETTING SORE. AND I FEEL THAT IF I CAN IN A NEW SPOT I WILL .
THANK YOU
ANNA

Ms Kat replied October 23, 2009 4:20 AM

The bruises are caused by hitting a vein which you are not suppose to do. I have a hard time seeing them so it happens.

My mom use to inject in belly, arm, buttocks, and thighs. She rotated it for a while so that the spots wouldn't get too sore.

ONeil replied October 24, 2009 2:51 AM

thank you for the infoer, do what you stated and being new at this , this will help

We rotate spots on Troy. He does not like it in the leg and prefers the fatty tissue in the back of the arm. He is only three so we have been timid on doing the stomach area. When he goes to sleep we do the long lasting Lantus in the leg...he doesn't even flinch. They say it is best to rotate. Can you do morning shot in leg, afternoon in stomach, evening in back of the arm, and night in the other back of the arm? Then in the morning start with the other leg and so on? That way you can avoid building caluses which I've heard can prevent the insulin from working right. I wish a pill could be used instead of shots. Someday...someday...

As a type2 adult onset, I don't think too much about type1 people. After reading your reply,I have it sooo easy compared to what your family and troy have to deal with.
I feel ashamed foe all the times I have complained or felt sorry for myself.
I admire your courage and love in dealing with troy, and wish you all the best of luck.

I feel bad for the little guy. for only 3 yrs old to me that has to be hard for your family to do that for him every day. but for him to be as brave as he is you gao to lve the little man for what he is going though. Well all I can say is that I wish you and your family all the best on troy
bless you all

my endos have told me only use the belly as that is absorbed more efficiently. Used the legs, buttocks and back of arms for 35 years prior to that though!

ONeil replied October 24, 2009 2:49 AM

that is what the Doc told me to do , but after a while your belly will get sore and that is why I was hopeing that their is ather place to do you injection to a voild that , and not only that I am new at this, so thank you for you infore

Crashnot replied October 24, 2009 1:46 PM

I've never had problems with soreness, but I do build up scar tissue under the skin if I use THE SAME place too often without a few days break. If you rotate from left side to left front, right front and right side, and all the spots in between, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thighs are good, but it will absorb slower there, just in case no one ever told y'all that, I'm a pump user, my belly NEVER gets a break!, I have all these little white dots, but I like the belly! when using the thigh, check before then about an hour after too see how long it takes to absorb.

I always change the location that I give myself an injection in to give each area a rest. Yes, you can give yourself an injection in the belly and the thigh or even your arm if you have someone who can do it for you. When I do my stomach I would start at the left side for that week. The next week I would do the right side and then the week after that I would work on my thighs. I would pick a different area for each side for that week. This works well for me and I am never sore

Crashnot replied October 26, 2009 3:57 PM

Why do you need help for the arm? I just put my knee up, rest the back of the arm on it to make the fatty part stick out, and pop it in. Using your non-dominant hand might be trickier for some, but the knee under arm trick worked well for me for a long tim!

ONeil replied October 27, 2009 9:21 PM

I don't put the injection in the my arm, but in the belly.

Ok, I hate to mention this but since I lost about 100 lbs in the last 3 years, I tend to have a little flap of skin around the bottom of my belly. So i tend to use that area to inject lateley. I find that the sides seem to be better and less pain receptors.

ONeil replied October 27, 2009 9:19 PM

Okay, but my Doc told me to de it in the belly but it is getting tender in some spots. that is why I am asking if you can do the injection in a differtent spot. thank you for you infore
Anna have a good day

Sarguillo replied October 27, 2009 10:36 PM

one thing to think about is that there is alot of room on a belly. If its a big belly, more room. Shoot in one location, then move about an inch over for the next shot. If you keep shooting in the same location, you will end up with hard spots that the needle finds hard to penetrate. If you are slim, then you have to grab some belly skin and shoot sideways. I dont have that problem, have lots of belly area. If your doctor says to shoot in the belly, then by all means, do shoot in the belly. Its always safest to follow your doctors receomendations if you are in doubt. Me, I know I can shoot in the arms or legs, but choose not to. Tried it, hurt much more so I dont do it there.

Good luck.
