Glipzide

I was taken off of Meformin when that cancer was found on my kidney, as it is hard on kidneys and with just one left, I have to be more careful.

Lat week my regular Dr suggested a "Tiny " bit of Glipzide, and to take just 1/2, well I forgot as it wasn't written down, and took a whole one and my BS dropped to 49, I was SWEATING something fierce, a first for me in relation to a new med. And HUNGRY!

The next day I took the scheduled 1/2 pill, but again, my BS dropped to 50. So today, I took 1/4 of one, tricky—-but I tried! Well, we took a 2 hour drive and I got that STARVED feeling, usually I just "kinda" want something to munch on, but this was more persistent, so we stopped and I bought a Zero Coke, ate one cookie, 1/2 small bag of nuts, got home and THEN my BS was 90! So I am assuming it was lower than that on our drive!

Now what? This is Sun so guess I should call my Dr tomorrow before I take anymore, without any meds my fasting was 150 to 200, too high, he tells me, but I think that I would rather run the risk of NOT having a LOW, than the alternative!

Any thoughts??

It takes a while to get used to it Pat, but you certainly know when you're going to have a drop in your bs. My doc added this along with my metaphormin back in July and the drop in my readings happened within 24hrs. When you're used to 200's and dropping overnight to below 100 it can be frightening. It's hit me a couple of times when I'm out shopping…the sweating, light headedness and general just 'out of body' feeling. If you don't act quickly, you could end up out for the count. I now keep the glucose tabs in my purse if it comes on quickly. It's frustrating sometimes, but if it consistently keeps the numbers down it has to be beneficial.

Thank you so much for the ideas—-I will NOW keep something on hand, but don't want to eat as much as it seems to take to keep my BS up—-boy the first time the low hit—-SWEAT—WEIRD—-But after reading so many posts on here, I had a pretty good idea what was causing it, but was SURPRISED to actually SEE my numbers that low, re-took it, but it was not a fluke—OH, Dear, now I have to really THINK instead of just floating—drifting—along! hahah—Hugs, Pat R

Pat, I too take glipzide. Its a faster acting pill that seems to push the BS down. Make sure you eat. Take the pill after the first bite so that it starts to work at about the same time as when you BS is at its max. Make sure you eat enough for the amount of pill you take. Good luck.

Pat, I agree that a call to your doc is in order. Do you have a snack before you go to bed? 2 to 4oz of sparkling apple juice did the trick for me when I was prepping for my colonoscopy, and my testing numbers were low (not as low as yours.). 1/4 a pill looks like it might be the right dose, but I don't have experience with lows except for prep day. Others will help, just wait and see…hugs

Thanks, Suzie!! I will call him after dinner, I overslept today, was pooed after our 2 hr drive to view GREEN TREES! Haha—the colorful trees were here in town!

But this morn my BS was 143, fasting—after all of yesterdays ups and downs, got more strips to keep a check on it. I didn't have this much trouble on Metformin 750 mg a day, NOW I understand the importance of physical signs to determine where your BS is—( Sweating—big time!!!__) on Metformin I didn't have the DROPS, my Dr, said I would—-I didn't realize how easy being on Metformin was, till I am now on this Glipzide! Pooey, I hate to pay that much attention to keeping my numbers steady!! Am tempted to just do without if it is going to be that tricky?!! In the city, after surgery, they didn't give me a thing even if it was 200, it usually went back down on its own! PR
