WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIZARD SPIT CURE?

kdroberts replied October 5, 2009 2:43 PM

It wasn't a cure, it was a treatment and it turned into Byetta. As has been said, to find a cure you have to find the cause and that is completely unknown. You also have to find that the cause for all diabetes is the same, which it almost certainly isn't. My feeling is it's probably going to be another 10-15 years figuring out diabetes to a point where it's well understood and then another 15-20 before meaningful cure research will be close to start finding cures. I also think that there will be cures rather than a cure and they won't all happen at the same time.

I have heard encouraging things about stem cell research.

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT?

They won't be able to find a cure until they know what causes diabetes. Hopefully they will soon know what causes diabetes then they can start working on a cure. Yes, I have heard encouraging things about stem cell research. But that has been all I have heard.

Thats it not much yet but we can all hope

SuzyAttendorn replied October 5, 2009 3:33 PM

and here's to HOPE!!

Jipwhip replied October 11, 2009 3:05 AM

Yes there is always hope. That is why things have changed and gotten better for diabetics now then what they used to be. Imagine caring around a laptop size meter to check your blood everywhere you go. Or having to sharpen needles when they get dull. So don't ever give up hope things are getting better.

30 years ago my sister had gestational diabetes, and she had to test her urine in order to know what her blood sugar level was. That is even worse that carrying a laptop around. I can't imagine having to test my urine throughout the day! That goodness we have the easy home blood tests that we do now!

salmanda replied October 11, 2009 3:22 AM

Sorry, I meant a laptop size meter..not a laptop. :)

I'M THANKFUL FOR THE PROGRESS, BUT IT STILL DEPRESSES ME THAT THINGS ARE NOT FUTHER ALONG THAN THEY ARE.

salmanda replied November 4, 2009 12:20 AM

I agree with you...I certainly wish there was a cure!

I sincerely doubt that there will be a cure for all types of diabetes in our lifetimes but technologies and treatments continue to improve. Before I developed diabetes, I had a friend whose meter required blotting, rinsing, timing, and wiping. One day, she had an insulin reaction and I couldn't figure out how to operate her meter in order to help her. Modern meters are much easier.
