I just found out I have diabetes. I went to my ob gyn and sugar was found in my urine so he ordered blood work and confirmed my worse fear- I AM DIABETIC. What is really frustrating is that I am not for sure if it is type 1 or 2? I dont have a family Doc. I got a referral for a good dr. but cannot get an appt. till November!! I am trying to cope with this but I find myself very depressed, constantly in tears and lost?? 6yrs ago when I was pregnant- I was diagnosed w/gestational ...it went away and now it's back? Why I am so surprised?

Get a meter so you can test, and I'd recommend calling this new Doc and telling them that you were just newly diagnosed with diabetes and need an initial appointment as soon as you can get one,

thanks....I did get myself a meter today. My sugar was 159 -30 minutes after I ate. Is it supposed to be an hour or 2 hours before I am supposed to check? and what is too high?

Welcome to the group Naomi. Some of the feelings you mentioned are quite normal and a part of coming to realization of what you're dealing with. Best suggestion I can make is to get you a pad/pen and start writing down questions to ask your Doc in November. You have time to start reading things for yourself and jot down things you don't understand. You'll have lots of questions and not always the answers, but the more informed you are the better you can make the changes in your lifestyle. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask!
