Last edited about 1 year ago For me I think this diabetes thing is as hard as a person makes it to be.If I no Im going to my Dr I will keep track of things 4 days before, other than that I just do my best unless I need to adress a certain problem..JU
Gabby replied July 2, 2008 4:14 AM 4 days is good, but sometimes our patterns are longer in the making and there are things we can figure out if we have more information. There are so many complications associated with diabetes, it is good to watch everything so we can find those patterns and help with researching our own cures. |

A good one came with my AccuCheck meter, It was small enough to fit in my testing kit. It included date, time, bgl and a space for comments. I like your idea of including food and also a daily journal.
Gabby replied July 2, 2008 4:12 AM Last edited about 1 year ago yeah, I just wanted it all in one place. I am an organization freak, not quite over the edge, but I do have my moments, and this was an idea spawned from my many stations placed in the house that I keep various things. What kind of things would you like to see included? What is the one thing you wish you had rememberd to keep track of because now, in hind site, you see it was a flag or a symptom? |

I just use a notebook... works for me
Gabby replied July 2, 2008 4:10 AM I use a spiral notebook, but find that if I have things to fill in instead of making a new sheet every day, I would waste less time and be more prone to actually keeping track better. As it is, my morning routine that used to be nuke a leftover and out the door...has now become a 45 minute ritual of prep, cook, test, supplement, eat and clean up. When I have to record all the things on top of that, I was just looking for a comprehensive place to do it where it would be easier. |

I have a custom Excel workbook that I've been using for years to track blood pressure, blood glucose, food, exercise, test results, and questions for the doctor. When I am away from the computer, I jot the info down in a small notepad I keep with my meter, and add it into the logbook later.
Gabby replied July 2, 2008 4:17 AM Do you include notes like how you feel, what is happening around you that might cause a spike? Does that look at times and seasons since we are creatures of habit and seasons change our moods, cravings, and so on because there is still a little primitive in each of us? That is why I am looking for more, something that I can carry with me that becomes my bible so to speak.
tmana replied July 2, 2008 4:41 AM I have a general comments area, but I don't use the info for trend analysis unless I have a specific trend I want to look at.

I have a carelink for my meter. It uploads my readings to my computer. It gives the time day and levels. So when I go to the doctor all I do is print it out. It also works on certain insulin pumps. I find that if I write down my carbs during the day and I enter that into the computer at night. It puts it into 1 report and is very managable. You can even enter your excercise too.
jupton1 replied July 2, 2008 8:14 AM That sounds realy neat.Im honestly glad I dont have to do that so far.I just try to eat what I think is a healthy meal..great info..JU |

I think it's a great idea, Gabby. I, too, have many books around for various things. I need something that will allow me to track my meals and their values, including fats--not just calories and carbs, somewhere to keep appointments to different doctors, moods because they definitely affect my eatin habits and anything else you suggest! Much success on your great idea!
Gabby replied September 4, 2008 6:57 PM I have not gotten very much feed back on what people actually want. I have been really busy, and this has kind of taken a back seat, but I really need to do it. Thanks for commenting on it and bring it back to the front. |

John has asked me how this idea was going....so I shared with him what I have found. But we still need practical input from you. Share your ideas with us, it will help everyone. |

Gabby replied October 4, 2009 2:02 PM See, I agree! The weather has a lot to do with us, but we don't really consider it much. That is so true. Even just emotionally, weather is a shifter. If it rains for 3 days in a row, we tend to get down....things like that can help us find the links that can effect us. |

Maybe you could put it together in sections like a cook book, with each section labled and pages left blank to be filled in. |
Since I have joined the community here, I have discovered all kinds of things I need to keep track of. However, I have yet to find a single place to do it. BG book here, food log there, journal under the pillow...not really. But I have not found a book that existis out there that helps us organize and keep track of all the quirky things we need to pay attention to. So I am on a mission to create one. I need your input.
What would you like to see included?
How would you like it organized?
Need more space to write notes?
What are things that you make mental notes of?
Where do you keep your notes to review with your doctor?
Do you have a place that you can chart your progress?
Do you track the weather and how it makes you feel, eat, exercise?
Do you write down how you slept the night before?
The list is endless, but if I can find the ones that you feel mean the most, I can make a useful book.
I know a lot of people do it one line, but I am not always near a computer and having a book with me kind of like a daytimer (remember those?) but with our observnces, numbers, hits and misses all recorded in one place.
Help me, and maybe I can help you...together we can make a great record keeping book for all of us.
