Have you talked with your doctor about taking a diabetes education class...There is a lot of excellent books in the Book Review section that can help you find out about the treatments for each type one and two... Your diagnosing physician should have told you what your diagnoses is... it is not about taking a pill or not... your doctor should have given you more information. Please ask him/her to clarify and direct you care.

Ask your doctor and also ask him to see a diabetic educator so you can get more information and understand diabetes better. Keep asking questions here and you will bet lots of good help.

I am sorry for the loss of your father. I will keep you in my prayers if ok.

I agree with everyone here. Talk to your dr. and ask which type you are. Aske for a diabetic educator referral too. They can help lots.

I am sad to hear of the loss of your father. That is a tough one to lose. I lost mine in 1997, and I still get teary sometimes when I think of him. May you always have thoughts that bring a smile to your face when you are thinking of him.

As for your question, your doctor needs to spend some more time with you on that. Getting an educator is good too, but your doctor needs to help you out more. I would call him and ask over the phone, then set up an appointment and take all your questions on paper to him. Write down his answers and keep asking until you get an answer that you understand.

Hello, and welcome, I agree with gabby check with your doctor. I am a t2 and take metformin and insulin. Some docs put newly diagnosed on insulin first, seems to work better on t2. sorry to hear about your father
