I've have had diabetes for 15 years now, still struggling with it, i can't seem to get my blood sugars down or keep them steady, which really takes a toll on me, and for everyone around me, i'm hoping that maybe by joining this sight i can talk to people that go thru the same things as me, i don't know anyone with diabetes, and the family and friends don't know enough to understand, so hopefully i can get help or support here and make some friends.

Its fun trying to educate family, after my dx my dear mother brought me lunch to make me feel better,
A large vanilla Shake, a double cheeseburger and a large fry,
My wife got me a large brownie, with heavy chocolate frosting, she said it was okay because it had walnuts and the nuts were good for me.
You will probably not have anything come up that at least one person here (or all of us) have dealt with. Welcome!
Was I right or what Ginger!! LOL Before you know it you will gain back control of your blood sugars…Best of luck to you!…Everyone on DC are wonderful, even if you are going through something affecting your life that has nothing to do with diabetes you still get wonderful response's…I love my new family!! :-)
THANK YOU ALL!!!!
Hi Ginger!! This site has really helped me answer questions and get new information and to not feel so alone too. My Baby has diabetes and it is so hard. I struggle keeping his numbers under control too. I'm confused when I see numbers higher than they should be and delighted to see target numbers. I have often wondered what is control? His numbers are like a yo yo up and down. I try hard but there is a lot going on in the body besides insulin. Our Dr. said there are a lot of other hormones affecting his blood glucose levels too, like adrenalin and cortisone. She said every time he gets happy stress or bad stress it can affect his levels. So if he gets excited zoom there goes the control. I try my best and it is sad to say I'm happy to see numbers in the 200's. I think, that's not too bad but I know it's not good. I mean it is hard to keep him in the hundreds all the time. Every time I see a commercial about meters and if you look at the number on the meter it is always a great number like 150. I always think, right!! Like that's the case. It should say something more to reality like 289. Wouldn't it be a dream come true if the meter always said 150? Welcome to a great place to feel. Hi Ginger,
Welcome to the site. I hope you find it helpful. When you were diagnosed, did you ever go to a diabetic educator? If not, ask your doc for a referral. They can be helpful.
hi turtle,
when i was told i had diabetes 15 years ago, i did see an educator, and that was great, since then i had moved so i had switched doctors, several times, and i just found a good doctor and educator, and she is trying to get me back on track.

Hello Ginger, yes it is hard when you don't have others around you who understand what you are going through. But that is what we are here for. Some of us, if not all, have been where you are. So ask away and I try to help along with a lot of other friends here. So welcome to the club.
