I found some really amazing news info while googling around last night. Check out the articles posted in the "News & Articles" section here about the high incidence of Type 1 diagnosis during the winter. Then let us know if your Type 1 was diagnosed at that time!

I was diagnosed with type 1 on December 5th, which is actually late fall. But I had been very very sick since October of the previous year but never attributed it to diabetes since I was 25 years old (thought that was too old for type 1) and we had no history of diabetes in our family, I was not overweight and was only 25 (thought that was too young for type 2 ). But it turns out I had type 1.

That' been a kind of theory for a while. Not just winter diagnosis but a much higher rate in countries that have lower hours of sunlight compared to others. I believe an example I read a while ago was Finland having something like 3 or 4 times as many cases of type 1 compared to Venezuela.

Finland has the highest rate per capita. The next link I posted had some info on that in conjunction with Vitamin D deficiency, which of course we get from sunshine.
