Hi everyone, After falling 2x since knee surgery, I have decided to move to an assisted living home. I will be able to have both my dog and cat with me, as they are service animals. I hope this leads to a safer happier life for me.

I wish you the best. At least you know you will be someplace where medical help is close at hand if you need it. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh Robbin I am so sorry that you have to give up your home but I know you will be safer going to your new home. The best news is that you can have your dog and cat with you. In the meantime, BE CAREFUL.
I got your email and will reply later today.

I am sooo glad to hear that you are moving into a safe environment. If nothing else, it is nice to have others around for meals and for company when you want them. I am glad they willlet you keep your animals/ Best of luck.

I'm so sorry you have to do that but I can encourage you. My Grandmother lived in a home like that and she just LOVED it. She not only got help when needed but they also planned activities. I know all assisted living homes are diferent but I think you'll love it and what more can you ask for...your babies get to go too!!!!

My Mother is in an Assisted Living facility in Fairbanks. She just loves it. She is 93 and I took care of her up until she got beyond my ability to handle the physical aspects of moving her around. She is now in the position of requiring a lift device to move her. Her mind is still sound but her body has given up on her. She couldn't take her Chihuahua, who is now my Chihuahua, but the owner of the facility has 3 small dogs that live on the level with the "guests" and take turns being on Mom's lap.

They take such excellent care of her I know, without a doubt, that they do a much better job than I could ever hope to do. The facility is more like a boarding house than a medical facility. She has a private room and the staff all make over her something fierce.

The owner of the facility has an apartment in the basement so she is on the premises almost all the time, being gone only when she is taking someone for doctor's visits or shopping. Her continual presence helps keep the staff on their toes at all times.

You will undoubtedly be safer there than you were on your own. Some of the people in the facility where Mom is go out to town on their own when they feel so inclined, which lends a great deal to their contentment, as they aren't restricted in any way. Some, like my Mom can no longer get around without an ambulance so the range of "guests" goes from one extreme to the other.

I hope you will find people there that you can be friends with and with whom you will have things in common.

May you be blessed with security, peace and comfort.

Thank you everyone. I actually am looking forward to the move because I will be safer and have friends and people to eat with. Yes, I am so fortunate that I get vto take both my kitty and dog with me. They are both service animals so it made it easier. I will not have to struggle for my meds anymore nor for food. This will be a good thing. I am not giving up...I am taking with, as I look at it.

Turtle, I am new to this site and am still trying to find out how it all works, but your move really got my attention for the fact you can take your babies with you!
My animals are my life! I love my pets and jmy husband and I are very much in love with our babies. We enjoy them and receive so much good from our involvement with the animals.
I have been a dog groomer for 37 years and do some boarding also. I have a small home based kennel and grooming business. We rescue Rat Terriers and foster them. Other breeds find their way to us over the years also. We dearly loved our giant breed dogs. Since they have passed on, by accident we rescued a rat terrier and it opened the door to greater involvement with them.
I hope to hear from you and many others as I learn my way around this site.
Take care and God Bless you on your new journey!

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your support. I have not moved yet because it has taken a long time for the paper work to go through. I think it is about there. One of the places I was hoping to go to is very nice and the lady came to my home the other day and interviewed me. I was very hopeful. Then I got word from the social worker who is trying to find me a place that they turned me down because of my "complicated medical issues and mental illness". Now is that discrimination or what?

So my social worker is still looking.

yep there is way too much red tape in everything anymore.. hopefully they can at least get you what I have.. a home health care aide.. helps a lot. I would never be able to live alone without the help. Hope you can get things straightened out one way or another. David
