I had the gastric bypass just as I was beginning to have to take diabetes medication. Lost 80 pounds and have not had a problem with the diabetes since but the best part really for me is it totally changed the way I look at food and what I like to eat. It was the best decision I ever made and I would do it again in a heart beat. My overall health has improved enormously and no more checking my blood sugars all the time.

Congrats on your weight loss and good luck with the last 35 pounds. I will be interested to hear how you make out once you reach your goal and how you plan to maintain the new weight. I would consider doing the same thing for I need to loose about 60 - 70 pounds and I know how hard it is.
Me2 replied August 14, 2009 3:55 PM Thank you, Betsie. I would encourage anyone to have the lap-band surgery if it is something one would consider. I can't tell you how it has change my life, not just my looks, but my meds and my self esteem. I feel so much better physically. Not all that weight on my legs and I have much more energy. Hugs... |

Hiya, I am Sheila...I have had surgery in 99 though and it was different...not sure what's so different though but I did not work it and failed...gained it all back...I am now 400 pounds and HAVE to loose! My bones can not take it, as well as all these other issues I am having. I am now scared and serious, back then I think it was more the "look" now it is health!! Granted looks go along, lol. I dunno but I was suppose to see a doctor again today but they had to reschedule until the 31st. I was once told they would do it over again, not sure really...but going to find out and this time I will NOT fail! I am on like thirty medications at the moment too, got to get off all these meds, ugh! And that is not a exaggeration to be honest!! So if you would msg me, something, I would LOVE hearing anything and everything I could about it!! If you don't mind. Thanks so much for sharing...and congratulations on your weight loss!! Hugs! Sheila

I have mixed feelings on these kinds of surgery. I think they are helpful and you still have to be disciplined with it.Lap band is much less invasive than by-pass and that is good too.
Me2 replied September 1, 2009 3:14 PM Sorry your friend went thru all that, but with lap-band surgery, there is no cutting at the stomach. It's a band (like an innertube) that goes around the stoma (before the stomach) so the food is takes a very long time to reach the stomach and the feeling of fullness is with you a long time. For example, I can eat 4 oz of food only and do not get a bit hungry between meals. The lap-band is far less risky than the by-pass and is less invasive. Thank you for sharing your friends story with us. Hugs... |

do you know how much this procedure cost...i have no health insurance, and have not been able to lose weight..
Tita replied November 8, 2009 11:13 PM Last edited 13 days ago I have a client that had gastric bypass, lost 100 pounds and then stopped with 100 pounds yet to go. She started on the Medifast program at her doctor's urging, has resumed losing weight, and no longer has any of the unpleasant digestive issues she suffered after her surgery. I know the lap band procedure is much safer than gastric bypass, but anesthesia, required by both, is still a serious risk and the post surgery digestive issues of both can be similar. Both kinds of surgery are expensive. Medifast is reasonably priced and a safe, fast, and healthy way to take off the excess pounds. Check out their website (NOT associated with me) at Slenderway.com. They even provide free health coach support. I understand that you do not have health insurance, but if your doctor has told you to lose weight and you itemize on your taxes, the cost of this product is tax deductable. I did that on my 2008 tax return and I have lost over 100 pounds so far. Also, I no longer need bs, bp or acid reflux meds, |
I have had TypeII diabetes for about 10 years and I KNOW that it has been due to my being about 80 pounds overweight. I talked to my doctor about having Lap-Band surgery and he was thrilled at the prospect of me having it, so I screened and got a wonderful Lap-Band surgical doctor and have lost 55 pounds so far. My regular doctor can't believe how much of a difference it has made for not only my diabetes, but my high bloodpressure as well. He told me that there is a big chance that I will soon be able to go off both meds. I have about 35 more pounds to go to reach my goal weight. Anyone considering this surgery should not be afraid to contact a Lap-band surgical doctor. It could be a life safer.
