    Hi Carolyn ,

Don't worry , eating is good and you are not alone.

I always keep 4-5 kinds of fresh fruits .You can make fruit salad with them. Also I make healthy muffins every week and they are always in the refrigerator.Different breads , different cheese , they are all very healthy and helpfull to keep you full.

Another tip ; if you are full but still want to eat just start cleanning the home.Trust , you will forget to eat.Besides ; you will lose weight , you will save money and your home will look much better..

    Good luck…

Hi, my hunger was lately getting out of control. I had too eat all the time, without ever feeling satisfied. Since I started low carbing, my hunger has normalized. It feels very liberating to be able to say and feel: I had enough, I do not want to eat anymore. I learned that my hunger was not a lack of willpower, but something that was driven by my high carb intake. Gabriela

Im the same way when the hunger pains hit I just reach for something nutritional and something that's good for me. I eat lots of fruit now, which I didn't use to. I eat so much more healthier which is a shock to me, didn't think I could do it but I can if I want to stay well and feeling better. We have to keep our health up cause it's only one of us, life is already so short as it is. So just think healthy!!

Even though I'm currently underweight, I was at one time fairly heavy. I think most of us have a reverse psychology going; the very fact that we're not supposed to have something makes us want it more. I constantly crave sweets, especially CHOCOLATE! For some reason, sugar free chocolate just doesn't have the same appeal. My roommate isn't diabetic and she often keeps candy around the house. I struggle constantly to leave it alone. At least I've convinved her not to bring home the dreaded chocolate.

I think maybe this is a side effect of the medication we use for this illness. I take Januvia and I am really on a "see food" diet. I am hungry all the time and I crave cornbread with raisins and shreaded coconut. It's really good with a glass of vanilla soy milk.

I never was a big sweet eater. But now that I know that I am not supposed to have it; It seems that I find myself wanting something sweet all the time. My husband is a just the opposite, he loves Chocolate, cakes, candy, icecream, etc., you name it. In the beginning I would get so upset with him because he was constantly bringing home, and still does from time to time, cakes, icecream, candy, you name. I thought how cruel can you be, don't you understand that I can't have that, and you want to bring those things home and eat them in front of me? I finally got over it, and thought, why should he have to do without the things he loves just because I can't have them. I have got to take care of me, and we don't live in a perfect world with perfect people. LOL. Oh, well, such is life. HUH!!!!

    Ms. Carolyn,

I understand where you are coming from, Keeping some things out of the house it a great idea. Also try getting healthy things to munch on instead maybe? I know how hard this is, I don't really eat a lot of times but large portions which is not good, also I am a carb monster which is a big NO! lol But munchiing on veggies IF I had teeth…would love it for snacks. Just a thought, good luck though!! To everyone else also having this problem too, good luck! Hugs! Sheila

I have always been a pasta/bread eater. Since I was diagnosed with diabetes, I have also been drawn to sweets which I used to be able to easily avoid. Very frustrating!

I try to control what I eat, and sometimes I am good, but unfortunately my willpower fails me more often than not!

I need to get on the wagon! Good Luck.

LOL! Just my opinion but food tastes really good. I'm not perfect by any means but I try to keep it diabetic compliant 95% of the time. It's hard to do, I just keep thinking about how much I like my eyes and my toes.

Yo're not alone, I have a bad time controling my junk food not to mention I love to cook and sample everything. Knowing what this disease can do to me, I have to control it somehow.

I feel you, being a compulsive emotional eater this is the hardest thing I've ever done.

I was diagnosed 2yrs. ago with type 2. What I find interesting is I rarely ate sweets before but since being diagnosed, I seems to crave them. Water , ice cold, seems to help but sometimes I do weaken. I feel hungry all the time also.

I admire you Harlen for keeping things out of the house that are not healthful for you… I find that when I really crave something, like that occassional sweet… I go out and buy one… arrange a special moment to enjoy it… and many times, one bite is enough to satisfy the craving… I don't mind tossing the rest into the garbage… better there than on my body… But when I ignore a craving it just grows bigger and more dangerous… I also keep a daily food journal… and notice that when my cravings are really strong… it usally connected to over amonts of stressors… emotional or physical or both… so I also find that contemplation is a good way to deal with some cravings… to be conscious in making a choice is helpful if figuring out why we want certain things that are not healthful for us… self-discipline can only happen when understanding cause and affect is finally understood… appetite is as much about wanting gratification as it is about hungry… If it is actually out of hand, and you are stuggling, there is nothign wrong with going for couseling… having help to recognize the motivating factor behind our habits can reinforce our desire to change bad habits… It also helps to eat consciously… set a prety placemat, arrange a pleasant atmosphere… eat consciously… practice tasting each bite… fix pretty food… enjoy happy conversations around a meal… and if you live alone… do not watch TV during a meal… listen to pleasant music… the more satisfying the environment, the slower you eat… the better you digest… then relax for a few minutes afer your meal, consider the things you are grateful for… then take a little walk…

I agree with you Harlen. If it's not in the house, then we can't eat it. But I know how it is with the little ones. They have to have their treats, and we can't deprive them. It's the adults that I just don't get, because they know better, HUH! Should be ashamed of themselves for making us suffer so. LOL

Check out the article I posted from time magazine:

Exercise does not lead to weight loss.

    Actually exercise makes us hungry!

You are right Skip. When I exercise, (which I don't do as often as I should) I just get more hungry.
