I have a question...Does anyone have dark spots or dark rough spots on their skin?,,Does anyone who does know how to get rid of them? I only developed these after I was diagnosed with diabetes.

I have some discolorations due to sun damage that appeared as my diabetes evolved, but I think that was coincidental not because the diabetes caused the discoloration. Free advice? Get yourself to a dermatologist (Board Certified by the Board of Dermatology) and let dermatologist look at the spots and advise you.

I have noticed a big change in my skin since I was diagnosed with diabetes. I don't know if it is something that is just happening, or due to the diabetes. I just know that I have become very paranoid since the dx, and every new thing I discover, I think, "Well, where did this come from, I didn't notice it before." I have discovered some dark, rough spots that have popped up. I don't know, guess we will just have to let a dematologist tell us what they are and whey we now have them. Sue

There is a condition called acanthosis nigricans that causes dark skin patches and it is very much tied to diabetes. Some of the causes are insulin resistance, PCOS and thyroid problems. It is also loosely linked to obesity I believe.

It's worth checking out if you are curious, plenty of info on the web. It's not serious as far as I know and does get better if you control blood sugar and exercise.

I have two on my face and a few small ones popping out recently. I thought it was from age!!! lol Maybe not. I do have diabetes and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Possible links to that??? I'm curious now.

I have a couple, assumed that they were from the sun. I have been spending time in the sun when we go to Florida in the winter. Haven't done that since I was in my 20s. So, the dilemma is shall I get in the sun anyway, or sit with a big hat and sunglasses on?

Hi Everyone...Thanks for the input, I use to get really dark tans from the sun, so I know some of this is caused by the sun, but these spots are rough. I am slim so it's not from being obesity, I have never been. But I also lost 65 lbs when I came down with diabeties but have picked up a few, I almost died when I finally found it, so now I take 2 shots a day and keep it under control but it tend to drop to much sometimes, 2 days ago it went down in the 60s so I had to get it up fast. the spots I am going to see a Dermatologist and see what he says about it. They don't seem to bother me I just don't like them or the sun spots but I brought that on myself.I know there is a cream that will lighten them. Good Luck and May God Touch Everyone, Diabeties is not a good thing but we have it and have to take care of it the best we can...God Bless you all dear friends...STAY WELL!! ...Barbara

Your Dr is the best answer for that one, "just in case"! Some skin cancers don't seem as obvious as one would think, and that is NOT an area to be unsure of. I am afraid diabetis is the guilty answer for some, no matter the problem, but after my own kidney cancer scare---and other questionable ailements---just check with your Dr. All of us here will most certainly support you, no matter what is the cause!!

From a 77 year old, normally dark-skined--have been outside quite a bit, but have just a few, small brown spots> Have someone check your back too, a common place for skin cancers, and not a place that one can really see for themselves! Best Wishes and keep us posted! Pat R

You are so welcome!!! Since my own surprising cancer dx and surgery, one can't be too careful in this day and age--sadly, just need to be aware! Hugs, PR
